After presidential candidate Mitt Romney returned from his fundraising trip to Israel, his campaign yet again pandered to pro-Israel voters by releasing an ad calling Jerusalem “the capital of Israel.”
Opening with a voice over that asks, “Who shares your values?” the ad then slams President Obama: “As president Barack Obama has never visited Israel and refuses to recognize Jerusalem as its capital.” The ad continues with excerpts from GOP’s presumptive nominee’s July 29, 2012 speech in Jerusalem: “we speak the same language of freedom and justice,” “and like the U.S., Israel respects the rights of people of all religions,” “it’s a deeply moving experience to be in Jerusalem, the capital of Israel.”
Romney’s pro-Israel pitch was also emailed out to supporters with the subject “Israel, our alley,” on August 2, 2012. ProPublica published the text:
It was a deeply moving experience to be in Jerusalem, the capital of Israel, last week.
You can’t get much closer to the ideals and convictions of the United States than you do in Israel. We’re part of the great fellowship of democracies. We speak the same language of freedom and justice and believe in the right of every person to live in peace.
The story of how America — a nation still so new to the world by the standards of this ancient region — rose up to become the dear friend of the people of Israel is among the finest and most hopeful in our nation’s history. Israel and America are in many respects reflections of one another, and I am happy America has such a great friend and ally.

And like Romney’s trip to the Jewish state, the ad not only rouse up votes from Israel supporters, but the campaign is also hoping it is a money-making machine. The television spot can be found on Romney’s campaign website above a donation form with the headline, “Israel: A Cherished Ally.”
Oh puh-lease. Like he is going to move the embassy there instead of dropping the issue the minute he gets into the White House, like the past several presidents. Gung ho about it until they get into power, then they chicken out rather than face the Arab oil embargo.
