The ‘so-called peace process’ and Gaza ‘siege’ — Mohyeldin conveys Palestinian despair on MSNBC

We are seeing the counter-narrative to Israel’s security narrative as never before in the American mainstream. Last night: an astonishing report by Ayman Mohyeldin on MSNBC, Chris Hayes’s show, All In.

Hayes began the segment by saying that in Israel’s strikes on Gaza, “at least 24 Palestinians have been killed, including three women and seven children.”

He interviewed Mohyeldin, who said:

Keep in mind, Gaza has been under siege for several years now… Keep in mind, Gaza does not have early warning sirens and it does not have the bomb shelters for its civilian population that Israel does.

Chris Hayes expressed doubt about Israel’s claim that its attacks on Gaza are a response to rocket fire and not to the kidnapping and murder of three Israeli teens in the West Bank last month.

Moyheldin doubts the claim as well. He said that Israel rounded up 400 members of Hamas after the kidnapping and murder of the teens. Then he raised the point that the Nakba Day killings of two Palestinian teens outside Ramallah in May was a trigger for the latest round of violence– and described the world’s double standard for Palestinian deaths.

Even before the kidnapping… Two Palestinians were killed back in May and that didn’t trigger the kind of international outcry and international outrage that the killing of the [Israeli] teens did…

And then he talks about the alleged peace process:

There is a groundswell of frustration among the Palestinian population. Keep in mind, they’ve been living under this so-called peace process… for nearly 20 years. Their quality of life has never gotten better by any measure of the word.

Asked if another intifada is upon us, Moyheldin speaks of the Palestinian crossroads. The political class is now actively debating different approaches: a change in Palestinian leadership; the use of force, as Hamas recommends; or popular uprising. “There is an ongoing discussion about the best way of achieving self-determination for the Palestinian people.” Incredible, to hear such a straightforward discussion of the debacle of the peace process and Palestinian resistance to occupation, without demonizing Palestinians.

The natural follow-ups to this are the polling data that continue to show Palestinian support for a Palestinian state and the widespread support for the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions movement. What do Palestinians want? Let us hear from them.

I consider the clip to be rather pro-Israeli. They had on for their American audience a a clean-spoken Israeli officer talking English, and compared it with some Gazans who had trouble speaking English, they showed Hamas rockets in the night and people in Tel Aviv running into bomb shelters. Then the narrative was a bit about the cycle of violence and Ayman ended by noting that Palestinians are unhappy that their lives arent improving so they might revolt. The part about lives not improving was mildly Pro-Palestinian.

The overall impression is that Gaza is attacking the Israeli state with its rockets, and that there have been occasional personal attacks on civilians from both sides, and now they are worried that the conflict may escalate. So overall it is a mix of both sides are wrong, with Gazans provoking Israelis.

I don’t know why one would feel a need to see this as a major improvement. Ayman was probably Arab, so I guess having an Arab correspondent can be helpful. But the reality is different than the report portrays. Palestinian casualties are always higher than Israeli ones, Gazan rockets notwithstanding. The show is, naturally worried about whether some rockets might succeed in hitting Haifa. Well, for Gazans unfortunately it’s a surety that their own city will be attacked if the Israeli State chooses to do so.

Hayes began the segment by saying that in Israel’s strikes on Gaza, “at least 24 Palestinians have been killed, including three women and seven children.”

So then why doesn’t Hayes show photos of Palestinians getting killed, but instead shows photos of Gazan rockets and Israelis in Tel Aviv running to an air shelter when few actually get to Tel Aviv?

It is refreshing that there are naysayers when it comes to the propaganda from Israel that seeks to have this idea that the Palestinians should be denied their humanity or voice or to be heard from in the world. Once, the ancestors of Israelis were a minority that suffered, and, now, Israelis are making Palestinians suffer via an ethnocratic ideology. It’s the idea of ethnic supremacy, and didn’t the Germans believe in ethnic supremacy, as well?

Chris Hayes and Ayman Mohyeldin coverage of this Israeli aggression, is worth tuning in to. The rest, especially CNN’s coverage, give the zionist the advantage, interviewing their Israeli police superintendent, and the IDF spokesperson. They have interviewed Maen Erekait, Ambassador of the PLO, who explains their position very well, but last time, the Wolf man after interviewing the above Israeli officials at length, gave the Ambassaor a few seconds, perhaps.
Perhaps Chris Hayes could give the Ambassador some time. Thank you to Chris and Ayman, for giving us a reasonable coverage.

I hope that Hayes and/or Moyheldin will be allowed to mention the ongoing Nakba (continuous and sustained genocide of the indigenous Palestinians) later today.

It’s weird to see Israelis reacting to and fleeing to the calls of sirens as if that’s all that’s going on.
