Exactly Fred. Israel government policy is inherently discriminatory.
I'm going to have to defend Clench here. While I do not agree with jstreet leadership positions with regard to the I/P conflict. The grass roots membership is definitely opening their eyes to what's going on. As Phil says things are changing.
Total war on Islam? The guy in the cartoon looks Sikh to me. These Islamaphobes are complete idiots.
Its a good cartoon for the Washington Post but it's drawn backwards. The Palestinians live in the holes not the settlers.
You are so right.
Hophmi you really are clueless. Israel does not welcome Palestinian Americans coming for a visit.
The Reichstag gave Hitler the power to make his own laws. He then proceeded to ban all political parties and arrest the opposition.
No Oleg, there are more options than that. The fact that I may not approve of the Iranian government does not mean I am willing to go to war or to support Israel if it decides to attack Iran.
Oleg, Israel has 200 or more nuclear weapons and had not signed the NNPT. In addition, Israeli leaders have openly talked about the "Samson Option". So the question I ask is "Should Israel have nuclear weapons?"
It appears Mondoweiss has been assigned a new hasbara associate.
It wasn't Martians. It was the Haganah, Palmach, and Irgun who forced the Palestinians off their land.
No. That law does not apply here. The anti boycott law applies to companies that export from the US. It prohibits them from certifying that they boycott Israel in order to export to certain Arab countries.
No. The maximum penalty would be $160000, $10000 per defendant.
The plaintiffs also have to pay the defendants legal fees!
Judge says that Anti-SLAPP act protects any lawful conduct in the expression of free speech and public participation.
This morning the judge ruled that the lawsuit against the Olympia Food Coop was a SLAPP suit and dismissed it.
Looks interesting. The last quote in the trailer is telling
"But when it goes on for 40 years..."
The judge is in complete denial of the Nakba.
Those poll numbers are old. It will be interesting to see some new ones which reflect the New Hampshire results.
Supporting a university is different than supporting a government. Einstein supported education and Jewish cultural institutions. Einstein opposed nationalism.
I stand corrected but the point is the same. The Palestinian Jews prior to Zionism were one of many ethnic groups in Palestine.
Prior to Zionism, Jews made up 1% of the population of Palestine. Why 1% of the population has a historic connection that somehow trumps the other 99% is ridiculous (to be fair the 1% living there were not Zionists).
Zionism is based on mythology and in denial of the history of the Palestine and in denial of the rights of the indigenous people living there. The fact that someone prays in the direction of your house does not give them the right to kick you out of your house.
Harsh criticism. That must hurt a lot.
Wow eee, that is a first, using sat scores to justify apartheid.
Israel has a lot to be ashamed of. There is something fundamentally wrong when half the people living within a country are not citizens and are considered enemies.
What a bad joke. Israel violates the Geneva convention on a daily basis.
They are not citizen's because Israel is enforcing apartheid policies. That is cute referencing the Geneva conventions. Since when has israel complied with them?
J. Otto Pohl, your statistics are way off.

In 1922, Palestine population according to the 1922 British Census (Census conducted by the British Mandate Government.)

The soldiers shouldn't be there in the first place. Anyone with a conscience would refuse to serve in an occupying army.
Eee, no country caused so much destruction in Lebanon as Israel. Do you really think anyone there doesn't remember what happened in 2006 or the years under the Israeli occupation? Did you forget that Sharon enabled the massacres at the refugee camps?

"The number of Israelis living in the United States grew by about 30 percent over the past decade, according to newly released U.S. Census Bureau figures.
Some 140,323 people living in the United States today were born in Israel, up from 109,720 in 2000. Of the Israelis living here, 90,179 have U.S. citizenship and 50,144 do not.
But Israeli expatriates and Israeli government sources say the true figure is actually much higher. The Israeli Consulate in New York estimates there are 600,000 Israelis living in the United States."
yeah, right Ruthie. That's why Israeli nearly always retroactively approves building permits for Israeli Jews but never approves permits for Israeli Palestinians. Israel is nothing like the USA, Germany or Norway in this regard.
Gee eee, from your comment it is clear you didnt listen to a word she said. When are you going to take on the Israeli leadership and show there is a real alternative to occupation and oppression?
The Jews who lived in Palestine prior to the rise of Zionism were a
just one of many groups living there. Palestine was not the ancestral home of the European Jews who later emigrated there. They were colonists just like the Europeans in South Africa.
This is discussed all the time. Try using search.
Who knows? What we do know is that Israel started the 6 day war. When it was over thousands of Palestinians and Syrians were expelled from their homes.
No one is required to say the pledge of allegiance.
Thats right. I studied several foreign languages in school and never sang the county's national anthem.
Hophmi, Forcing the kids to sing the Israeli national anthem in a music class is wrong.
Woody, I don't like the Dead Sea being used for hasbara, but the place is a unique geographical site. It would be nice if Israel treated it with respect. The Dead Sea is drying up under Israeli stewardship.
what's the significance of the video?
Mooser, he knows what the problem is. He just won't say it.
So what does a Palestinian Israeli have to do to be treated like an equal human being in Israel?
Eee, she is an israeli citizen.
How is delivering letters a violation of the neutrality act?
Uri Avnery did not support Cast Lead or the 2006 War in Lebanon.
"Israel is a democracy because each and every one of its citizens is invited to vote in parliamentary elections which take place at least every 5 years (although usually more often)."
That's exactly the problem because a lot of people are not citizens. There are approximately 4 million Palestinians living under Israeli military rule who are not represented by the Israeli government.
What is DMC?
I think clenchner is only replying with the same sarcasm used by Alec who called this an anti hypocrite tool.

Lightbringer, while I take it as a form of flattery that you have copied my moniker, I hope Mondoweiss readers do not confuse your posts with mine.
"Although there is special battalion in which are serving bedouins, and Muslim and Christian Israeli Arabs, they are not the only non-Jews who serve in IDF."
The number of non Jewish Israelis serving in the IDF is small unless you count the Russian immigrants who don't qualify as Jews. Druze make up 1.7% of the Israeli population and there are a grand total of 712 Samaritan Israelis. That's total Samaritans and not Samaritans serving in the Israeli army.
"Peacefully. Right.
Just under how many killed is it considered “peacefully” ?"
If you consider the number of Palestinians killed by Israel to be the standard to be considered a peaceful people then the Palestinians pass with flying colors. In the past 10 years, Israel has killed 10 times as many children and 6 times as many adults as the Palestinians have.
"You should realize that among Israeli Arabs entire Palestinian Freedom case has much less support than it enjoys on international arena."
Do you ever miss an opportunity to smear Palestinians?
"It is astonishing that what was once so small a movement now defines what it means to be ..."
When I began reading this sentence I thought he was talking about Zionism and Judaism.
The last paragraph could be a quote from Jackie Robinson from 1950.
"It may be easier for me because I'm well known and people respect me. My family and friends suffer more from racism, but that's how it goes. We live here, and we've already learned to expect racism. I think we've already accepted the fact that that's how it is, and we try to cope with it. Maybe someday someone really special will appear and change things."
Congratulations on the publication of your book. Just ordered my copy from your Amazon store.
Let's see what happens after the UN votes on a Palestinian State in September. If Israel is occupying a UN recognized country sanctions may not be far away.
eee, read what I wrote. There is nothing wrong bringing an issue before the UN. The problem with the partition was that Zionists forced a vote on a plan that was drafted without consulting with or even considering the opinions of the 1 million Palestinians living in Palestine. What is delusional is your belief that 5.5 million Israelis can indefinitely rule over 5.5 million Palestinians. If I were you I'd be thinking about how to draft a constitution to share power equitably and guarantee and protect the rights of all citizens. Israel is rapidly becoming the South Africa of 1980's.
"And yes, annie, it was self-defense. Desperate, backs-to the-wall (or, rather, to the sea), win-or- be- annihilated self-defense."
Please Jon. The violence started with the Zionists forcing the UN partition vote. The violence and wars could have been pervented.
Defend? This was all about one group planning a war to expell another ethnic group. eee, go back and reread the Zionist writings from the 1920's onward. It is all about getting rid of the Palestinians.
With war looming? This was several years before the partition vote. Face it Jon, the Zionists were talking about expelling the Palestinians from the 1920's onward. The village files are a logical consequence of this ideology. Israel continues this policy in the West Bank with its regular mapping operations.
Tal, a mother country doesn't have to send someone for it to be colonialism. Zionism was/is a colonial movement because it's goal was to take control of Palestine via settlement.
There is nothing wrong with someone moving from one country to another as your grandfather did. The issue is what Zionism did to the indigenous people. It doesn't believe Palestinians belong in the country. Since the 1920's it was advocating various schemes to expell and or transfer the Palestinians. Since the founding of Israel, it has enacted laws to stifle israeli Palestinians. They have little or no say in how resources are allocated or how the land is developed. Their property rights are not protected. In the occupied territories, Palestinians have lived under military dictatorship for 63 years. But I guess that is worth it because someone somewhere yearned for Zion.
I don't understand. What is the difference between civil and national rights? It sounds like another name for state sanctioned descrimination? Some people will get national rights and some will only get civil rights. Suppose you would get only civil rights, would you want that?
don’t cite Palestinian sources
no one will believe you
I won’t believe you
trust Israeli sources

"This is not 1948 anymore. Welcome to the 21st century"
It would be great if Israel behaved like a 21st century country instead of a 19th century one.
I think we should start email campaign to have both Wiesenfeld and Schmidt removed from the board of trustees.
"American – I wonder too whether the idea of the chosen people for Jews is taken to imply superior status or superior obligation ..."
It means the latter. While I am sure that you will get more than one interpretation depending on who you ask, I was taught essentially the same thing as you except that "Christ's message" was "the Torah" in Hebrew school.
"No one will be splitting these hairs when the blowback starts."
You've lost me here with the "no one will be splitting these hairs". It reminds me of people who attacked Sikhs after 9/11.
I've never heard anyone interpret "chosen people" that way before, i.e. that Jews represent God on earth. If Abe Foxman said that he is an idiot.
You didn't watch the video or you would have seen the US State Department warning at the begiining.
I know an American high school student. He was born in the US. His father is considered a refugee in the West Bank but is also an American citizen. Israel will not let either the father or son in via Ben Gurion. When visiting the West Bank, they have to enter via Jordan.
GuiltyFeat I suggest you watch this video. Being American does not guarantee anything.

Mooser, the other day you mentionned that you are in the Putrid Sound region and welcomed non Zionist Mondoweissers. Is that offer still good?
