Cliff May describes Obama’s efforts to get the START treaty with Russia passed now:

I’m now hearing from more than one source on the Hill that the Obama administration has just added a new argument in favor of lame-duck ratification: failure to adopt START will “hurt Israel.”

Now here’s energetic Laura Rozen at Politico. Note that three of the four influential columnists with access to Biden have been hawkish re Israel.

Two major Jewish groups came out Friday in favor of ratification of the START treaty…

“The U.S. diplomatic strategy to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons requires a U.S.-Russia relationship of trust and cooperation,” the ADL continued….

On Friday, Vice President Joe Biden met with a group of foreign affairs columnists, including the Weekly Standard’s Bill Kristol, the Los Angeles Times Doyle McCanus, and the Washington Post’s Fred Hiatt and Robert Kagan, to push for the treaty, sources told POLITICO.
