Weekly Briefing: Israel’s generations-long assault on Palestine continues unabated

While the world remains fixated on the atrocious and incredibly dangerous war in Ukraine, the State of Israel’s generations-long assault on Palestine continues as it always has – that is to say it continues unabated. But it isn’t as if Israel is trying to be coy either.

This week former Prime Minister and convicted felon (convicted in an Israeli court in which he was presumed innocent unlike the military courts where Palestinians are tried) Ehud Olmert gave a revealing interview that shouldn’t be surprising to anyone who is fluent in the issues surrounding Israeli apartheid in Palestine. He also gave an incredibly petulant and evasive interview to Mehdi Hassan of MSNBC that I won’t link to but you can surely find it with a simple search.

In other news, even a right-wing Israeli legislator isn’t safe from attacks from the ever-ascendant proto-fascist Israeli body politic. The IDF is using drones in ways that would make former purveyors of racist ideologies whether in the Jim Crow south, apartheid South Africa, or Nazi Germany blush with envy. The “Hope” and the dream of a Jewish state in the Levant was always an abstract pleasant fiction, but the truly awful nightmare that Israel metastasized into through its unholy birth and the following decades of military occupation must be confronted and put to an end should justice ever prevail.
