Weekly Briefing: Israeli apartheid, and its defenders

If you’re a regular reader of Mondoweiss you might get the impression that Israel is a mean place. The news out of that place is consistently bad; the state treats at least one-half of the population it controls in the most inhumane way. It’s impossible to think of any group of people who have been treated this way, and for so long, who have just sat back and taken it.

That’s one large reason why it’s so infuriating to see folks in positions of power and influence pretend that Israel is really just okay and that there is a good humane Israel just trying to come out from under the bedrock – that a polity/government whose continued existence is predicated on the absolute worst that humanity has come up with thus far really means well and will do the right thing, even after all the crimes it has already committed.

In spite of what these people say Israel is that bad. Actually, it’s worse, it’s the model of what a place should NOT be. Only the worst places would and could be defended by the likes of people such as this. It makes perfect sense when you think about it.
