Weekly Briefing: No aspect of Palestinian lives escapes Israeli apartheid

After almost four months of obfuscation Israel finally acknowledged that its forces were likely responsible for the death of Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh. But in its typical fashion, Israel also says that it will not follow through on its own determination and will not charge the soldier responsible for the fatal shot. In other words, Israel has again gotten away with murder.

In fact, Israel is a serial murderer of American citizens – and it seems to be absolutely fine with the Biden administration. Imagine the outcry if any other country had a similar murder tally of Americans, yet even a mild slap on the wrist is a bridge too far for the administration. Indeed the U.S. and Israel enjoy a “special relationship.”

If there was any doubt as to the extent Israeli apartheid infiltrated the most personal and intimate aspects of the lives of Palestinians then those doubts ought to be banished by this report. Literally no place in Palestinian society, neither in physical space nor in a nonphysical emotional space, is safe from the prying eyes of the apartheid enforcers who seek to contain any and all aspects of that society.

Given all the demonstrable evidence, what kind of distorted moral code is animating the actors who can and ought to endorse BDS yet do not  – and in most cases also actively oppose it?
