It’s been almost one month since Israel’s last war in Gaza, euphemistically called “Operation Breaking Dawn,”ended. It bears repeating that 49 Palestinians were killed in Israeli strikes during that three-day assault. Seventeen of those killed by American-made and supplied weapons were children. We compiled and identified all those killed and memorialized them here. It is also important to note that Israel’s victims in Gaza aren’t limited to those murdered or maimed, that one can survive Israel’s all too frequent “lawn mowing” exercises with life and limb intact, albeit having experienced something horrific. These stories are too common as well. Maybe that’s why more and more younger Jews are spitting out Zionism.
One of the pernicious methods Israel uses to push Palestinians off their land is the cynical use of Zionist archeology by which something or other is classified as having a relevant (Jewish) historical heritage and thus the area is essentially confiscated. These projects have less to do with actual archeological science than with providing a pretext for settlers to move into Palestinian neighborhoods. But that’s not all. This pseudo-scientific branch of archeology not only attributes political/religious significance where there likely isn’t any, it also erases actual history, history from less than one century ago. And that’s really the crux of the matter. Israel must bolster the so-called historical Jewish claim to the land while at the same time it must expunge the Palestinian record.
They try to silence Palestinian voices too, because such voices are very inconvenient. With that in mind, perhaps one ought to check out this new Netflix series on a sliver of the Palestinian experience before the ADL or whomever gets wise to it and demands it gets taken down?
