Last week, Israel's assault on Palestinian resistance entered the legal arena. The resumption of army invasions on centers of resistance, this time in Nablus and Jenin, soon followed.

  • Israeli forces launched a simultaneous raid on Nablus and Jenin on March 7, allegedly in connection to the Huwwara operation from the previous week that killed two Israeli settlers. The wide-ranging twin invasions left 6 Palestinians dead and dozens wounded.
  • Israeli forces kill 15-year-old boy in Qalqilya.
  • Israeli Finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich calls for “wiping out” the town of Huwwara in Nablus, after Israeli settlers set the town ablaze in a pogrom.
  • Israeli practice of demolishing and displacing Palestinians has resulted in the displacement of more than 46 Palestinians this week, mostly in East Jerusalem and Hebron areas. 
  • The Israeli parliament passed a preliminary reading of a new bill which allows for the implementation of the death penalty for Palestinian political detainees convicted of “terrorism.”
  • Following the Aqaba Joint Communique between Palestinian, Jordanian, Egyptian, Israeli and American officials, Israeli policy-makers split over the need to halt settlements. 
  • In light of continued restrictions and violence enacted against Palestinian political detainees in Israeli prisons, civil disobedience and protests continue for the 21st consecutive day since they were announced in mid-February
  • The Palestinian Authority in the West Bank represses journalists covering the teachers’ union strikes, which have taken place in light of limited social protection and a growing financial crisis.
