Twenty years ago, an Israeli bulldozer crushed Rachel Corrie to death as she protected a Palestinian home. She has since become a global symbol for those seeking justice. Israel may have killed Rachel, but she lives on in us.

Shireen Abu Akleh joins a long list of Palestinian journalists who have been killed by Israeli forces while reporting. This Israeli hostility toward journalists makes sense once you understand the nature of this colonial state. The continuation of Israeli apartheid is only possible by fighting those who reveal the truth.

Ahmed Abu Artema writes: “I want to share with you the significance for me, a Palestinian human being, of walls and fences; birds and airplanes; and the power of voices to disrupt the stifling silence of collective punishment. I am writing today because Mondoweiss journalists have helped me challenge those walls—get closer to the freedom of a bird or plane in flight—by respecting, reporting, sharing and amplifying my voice and so many others.”

“Let us combine forces. Let us struggle together. Cross the mountainous road together, and strive together for a better world for us, for our children, and for our grandchildren. A world where all human beings are equal, safe, and free.” — Great March of Return founder Ahmed Abu-Artema addresses the 2019 Palestine Expo in London, England

Ahmed Abu Artema, one of the original founders and organizers of the Great Return March, writes: “The idea of One State is aligned with the spirit of our time. The global consciousness has evolved away from the idea of nationalism toward one of citizenship. Millions of Arabs today are citizens in Europe and America who enjoy the same rights as all other citizens of those countries. Why can’t Jews live in Palestine in exactly the same way – on the basis of citizenship and not of Occupation?”
