Imperialist Fashion: The Necktie

by Philip Weiss on July 17, 2006 · 6 comments

George Ajjan has an amusing item on Why Iran’s President Ahmadinejad never wears a tie. Ajjan heard this from an unnamed Iranian friend:

Shortly after the revolution…the tie itself began being associated with “Western imperialism”, especially after Ayatollah Khomeini branded a large group of intellectuals (who were less religiously zealous than he would have liked) as “tie-wearing cronies of the West” and essentially branded anyone wearing a tie as being Western influenced… Gradually, as Khomeini’s legacy became a bit less overbearing, regular people stopped caring… ordinary people now wore ties on a regular basis. I myself for example, always wore tie at work in Tehran, as did many of my colleagues. I would actually make a point of wearing a tie outside as much as possible, to do my bit…

The rich ayatollahs are fooling the poor Iranians.

In a stealth fashion, they are plotting plans to ayatollah-colonialize the whole region and beyond, and the meanwhile, their civil servants have to show a fake tie-free modesty.

The exploitation of their own and of the foreign people has reached a new climax, perfected beyond the mastery of the Soviet Cold War era.

In the Iraq-Iran war, Ahmedinejad managed the children sections of the minesweepers.

This Iran is so greedy, that the tie matter is almost a relief, to forget their deeper motives.

Again, we are witnessing a colonialization of barbaric proportions, under the banner of pious Koranic slogans. We should open our eyes. and the eyes of the Iranians to defeat this trend.

Good luck. Good Exploration!

Let us send a tie to every Iranian man and boy. Women can be also considered. I need a Nobel Price nomination for this tie peace mission proposal.

Oh, we should search for good slogans on each tie:

Iran Pledges Peace!
No Iranian Money for Wars!
Iran's Money for the Iranians!
Free Iran of Tyrants!

Iranians will get the tie free of charge, we will collect sponsorship for ties – $5.00 per tie. Made in USA!

Pine Bush used to have a tie factory. It should be reopened. It will be the new boom industry.

This is one of those interesting cases where Jewish 'orientalism' professes to find something amusing, without showing anything that actually inspires amusement. It's really a product of the Jewish capacity for self deception, which confuses the ability to sneer (which can be applied to anything whatever) with the ability to be funny.

As a matter of fact, pious Muslims object to neckties because, they say, they find them reminiscent in their basic geometry of the Christian Cross.

Rowan Berkeley's right; I should have said an interesting insight, not an amusing one.
(I will save my orientalism for when i think it's useful: clash of cultures)
