Why the Right Wing Needs Hillary

Conservatives are obsessing over Hillary Clinton even more than Democrats are. She's all they see when they look at the Democratic smorgasbord, they dismiss Obama. Conservatives secretly want Hillary to become President because that will fulfill their worldview, that p.c. liberals are trying to take over American culture, and give them focus and a reason to live again. She will be their grindstone and idee fixe, and witch and bitch. It reminds me of 1980, when I was a reporter in Philadelphia and asked my boss (Zach Stalberg) whether he was for Carter or Reagan. "Well I'm voting for Carter," he said drearily. Then his eyes gleamed. "But I sure hope Reagan gets in. It will be great for the news business." He was right. Conservatives need Hillary in the same way, to renew their cause. After all, what is more fun, defending George Bush or hating Hillary Clinton? Don't let them get their way...
