As I read Israel Shahak's book on Jewish fundamentalism, some rabbis might say that it is actually important to treat the economy on a holy day so as to fend off the resentment of gentiles.

michael, good point. i should have been specific. i meant: a defining moment in the jewish relationship to america. I watched the story of God based on Karen Amstrong's book yesterday. I was struck by the storyline that Jews were in Egipt for a long time, and only after they came to great prominence and antagonised the natives, their 400 year period of enslavement started.

I'm glad Congress and the Senate are taking a break, for whatever reason. Now is the time for our leaders to listen carefully to the taxpayers who put them in office, and the consensus, regardless of how shrill the rabble becomes, is to proceed with caution. We cannot give in to another WMB scare, nor should we trust the last ditch attempt of this woeful administration to do away with capital gains tax, which is, IMHO, the hidden agenda behind this "credit crisis".

First part of this sentence is correct. The second is what I call "anti-semitic libel".
I am simply saying that economic prominence of the minority is predictably followed by resentment of majority.
This is pretty universal (see how Chinese minorities fare, and predictable outbreaks of violent behaviour wherether they are small in numbers and successful) and Jewish people are not excluded.
