Canadian School ‘Rusticates,’ Deems ‘Offensive’ Jewish Critics of Israel

An excellent piece in Toronto Life about the school once known as Jew U. York University was a home to Jewish up-and-comers in the 60s. Now it's become a hotbet of Palestinian activism. Kippas versus Kaffiyehs. Of course there are some anti-Zionists in the ointment. Dan Freeman-Maloy is a cool kid who talks about Israeli war crimes and after skirmishes was "rusticated" by the university for three years. His big advocate is a Jewish prof, David Noble, who has pointed out all the big-money Jewish backers of the school on the York University Foundation:

[Its] board of directors includes Howard Sokolowski, co-owner of the Toronto Argonauts, and Joseph Sorbara, a developer and brother of Greg Sorbara, the former Ontario finance minister. Noble argued that the YUF was “biased by the presence and influence of staunch pro-Israel lobbyists, activists and fundraising agencies.” A Jewish group brought the pamphlet to the attention of the administration, who issued a press release condemning the flyer as “offensive” and expressed concern over the spread of “bigotry and racism” on campus.

Oh my. More and more Jews following in the Jeff Blankfort tradition: of talking about Jewish power/influence and its negative consequences. Avraham Burg now, too.

Why the typographical equivalent of raised eyebrows about the word "rusticated", Phil? A cosmopolitan fellow like you should know that it means "expelled/suspended for a fixed term" in traditional British/Commonwealth universities usage. FYI, Canada is not (yet) a state of the USA and not all your readers are Americans….
