Tonight on Hardball, Chris Matthews read from Newsweek's inside account of the McCain campaign and said Sarah Palin reportedly balked at meeting big "donors," saying she thought that this was a "corrupt" practice. The story's not up yet on the Newsweek site. I look forward to scripture and verse on this assertion, but it does remind us that during the convention in St. Paul in September, Palin, who famously rails against lobbyists, was constrained to blow off a public appearance or gathering so as to meet at a hotel with board members of AIPAC. First things first, Governor.
I have a suspicious mind, and wonder whether these are the "donors" Palin balked at. It certainly raises the possibility that if Palin runs again as a maverick who hates lobbyists, she might see an opening in this issue.
P.S. This piece says that Rahm Emanuel endorsed Obama on June 4th, the same day as his speech to AIPAC. (Also right after Obama had defeated Hillary.)

It was Emanuel who ushered Obama into his private audience with AIPAC's directors after the ring-kissing speech. And immediately after emerging from that audience he dropped Hillary and joined the Obama camp. Do you think a deal was made?
I can guess Palin's enemies by the insults thrown her way. "Wasilla Hillbilly" shows ethnic, regional and class bias, and "Caribou Barbie" could only come from an unattractive, catty woman with ethnic, regional and class issues. Maybe Palin rattled the right cages?
I agree with Todd's comment. Palin is the new Archie Bunker, or is that Joe the assistant plumber?
Interestingly, the original Archie Bunker show was a rip-off of a
Brit class warfare show (same as The Office, only more so).
But it's frightening that Palin was a heartbeat away from the Presidency–three days before Obama won she still thought
Africa was one nation.
When did that tiny flag of Israel first appear in her office?
