Adam Horowitz comments on Tzipi Livni's comments suggesting she supports transfering Arabs out of Israel to a new Palestinian state:
Mark did a good post on this over at jsf, but it is important to point out that Livni
is running as the leading centrist-moderate candidate in the upcoming
Israeli elections. This is a person who was feted with a glossy cover
article in the New York Times Magazine (Her Jewish State 7/8/07 by the moderate/right Roger Cohen) as the hopeful future for Israel, and this is a person who hints at expelling 20% of the country's citizens based on their ethnicity.
This reminds me of something I heard the great Africa scholar Mahmoud Mamdani say once at a panel at Columbia. I'm paraphrasing, but he said something like – in South Africa apartheid was considered the problem, in Israel/Palestine apartheid is considered the solution.
