Tragic. Israel has detained Richard Falk at Ben-Gurion airport, Al-Jazeera reports, and wishes to deport him. Oh--now he's been deported. This just a week after his scathing report on the approaching famine in Gaza and the world's silence.

It was a dumb thing for Israel to do.
If they objected to Falk as the UN representative, they should have communicated with the UN.
Its odd that they would keep intellectuals out (though Falk was there as an official, not as an intellectual).
Its as if they are imposing their own boycott on themselves.
Israel's reason is they don't like Falk's views on the I-P situation, nor his recommendations. And, they don't want Falk gaining information
on the ground as it might support a UN war crimes trial of various
Israeli politicos and Generals.
Israel flouts international law all the time. Ignores UN resolutions all the time, even as it points to the UN decision supporting Israel as a state, its international legitimacy as a state, a nation among nations.
They've treated the UN like they've treated Carter.
Where would Israel be today without the US veto at the UN, and US
tax dollars?
You know the US, just another country always just one step away from a pogrom?
Israel needs to be kicked out of the UN.
The US probably does too.
With the decline of the US as superdog, most UN members wouldn't see any downside to kicking us both out.
Foolish comment: the UN is the international body created by the powerful states who were victorious at WWII. It pushes austerity programmes on the developing world which benefits the multinationals. Its ineffectiveness in the face of US criticism and disdain only further proves the point that it is just meaningless unless it pushes a certain agenda. Not to say it isn't important but its importance is only marginal when powerful states make it powerless.

Wake up and smell the coffee…and subscribing to the UN report wouldn't hurt your knowledge base either……
…the US is now a huge joke in 90% of the universe….our power is waning and will further erode..it's a new era Bubba…the more the US huffs and puffs and bombs and strong arms other countries the more power it will lose and lose and go broker and broker.
It has perhaps escaped your notice that almost every member of the UN Security council no longer votes as the US dictates lately. All those "less powerful" countries in the UN can eat the elephant one bite at a time.
And that is exactly what will happen if Obama doesn't have the sense to back off US empire. But now that he is in charge Orwellington DC 'hubris' will no doubt be his middle name also…all politicans are delusional, it comes from living in the DC incest tank.
