Being wrong on Iraq continues to pay career dividends

Bruce Wolman writes:

Larry Summers is not the only one raking it in from business interests while temporarily out of public service. Tony Blair is also doing well in the ka-ching-ka-ching department.
Mind you Blair is not just a retired former Prime Minister. Currently, he is reported to be the leading candidate for first permanent President of the EU.
With Barack Obama joining Silvio Berlusconi to make sure Anders Fogh Rassmussen - the neo-Conservative, anti-immigrant, pro-Iraq-war Danish Prime Minister - becomes Secretary General of NATO over the objections of Turkey, it still pays to have been a forceful ally and a friend of George Bush in his march to war in Iraq.

Perhaps its tangential, but I am extremely disturbed by the report you linked to about Blair – Gordon Brown's talk of a new world order and all the other references to the nature of a relationship with Obama make me want to reach for my revolver. By the grace of God though this latest referendum will go crashing down like all the others before it, and Brown will get the much deserved boot in the next election.

Also, it will be one thing if the architects of the Iraq War and even the financial crisis get off the hook, but for Tony Blair to become the first New Roman Emperor would make me almost ready to believe that we are living in end times.

Good comments Jack Ross. And what do we observe here in regards to "Barack Obama joining Silvio Berlusconi to make sure Anders Fogh Rassmussen (…)"? Continuity. Obama sucks up to Bushs old friends. Change I can believe in? Fuck you Mr. Obama.

Object lesson 1: it can pay very handsome dividends to be a criminal, even a war criminal.

Object lesson 2: being rich doesn't mean being clever and stupid rich people like top blow their money on listening to platitudes, as long as they're served with nice meal.

Adolf Eichmann's motive was simple careerism. "I was just building my career."
Hence Arndt's coined phrase "the banality of evil.
