The Washington Post has a long piece attacking the U.S. government's use of psychologists to guide the torture of detainees in the quote-unquote war on terror. A bunch of experts and professional organizations assail the ethics of the psychologists' presence. Except this one:
Michael Gross, a professor at the University of Haifa in Israel and
the author of "Bioethics and Armed Conflict: Moral Dilemmas of Medicine
and Warfare," said that if physicians think particular harsh
interrogation techniques do not constitute torture, there is no reason
they should not participate.
"Physicians are faced with a hard dilemma," he said. "They have professional obligations to do no harm, but they also have a duty as a citizen to provide expertise to their government when the national security is at stake. In a national security crisis, I believe our duties as citizens take precedence."

Again, file under "survivalism."
Not to beat a dead horse, but vermin like Michael Gross are emboldened and provided a platform for their Nazism because the United States president declares the torture and murder of Arab citizens to be legal.
Except the United States president did not declare such.
Orwell predicted this sickening collusion in "Nineteen Eighty-Four": the "mixture of psychologist and inquisator" who could read minds to identify exactly what torture to inflict on human beings to take the humanity our of us.
Torture was commonplace before 1776. Then history happened. Someone forgot to tell Micahel Gross.
The Israelis are the new Huns.
"Every man ought to be a macho macho man,
To live a life of freedom, machos make a stand,
Have their own life style and ideals,
Possess the strength and confidence, life's a steal,
You can best believe that he's a macho man
He's a special person in anybody's land." – Village People

[I get financial/investment banking newsletters, and they're writing about how Israel is making "serious misjudgments" and "serious mistakes." FIRST time I've ever seen this. All discussion of equity markets never included Israel.]
Check out Berel's arrogance at the bottom of this post. Shows his colors:
Better when Jews had to hide in basements. Better when Jews had to fear for their lives. Jews still had their dignity then, they had their humanity, their common decency. Today, without a second thought, Jews shoot a man in a wheelchair then run over him with a tank, in the mangled streets of Jenin. Jews blast the arms off school children and crow to the heavens about our righteousness.
The little boy in the Margaret Burke White photo with his hands in the air–terrified out of his wits as a soldier levels his weapon is now an Arab child and WE are his murderer.
Let's not forget our wonderful new president. The freedom riders secreted slaves and sent them to a better life on the underground railway, blood was shed in the streets and Martin Luther King fought and died so that a black man could one day rise to a place of prominence where he could……
CONGRATULATE the sadists and monsters of the CIA for a job well done after they pour water into the lungs of their victims and knock out people's teeth at the Bagram Airbase and a thousands other chambers of horrors. A black man who will say to his Palestinian brothers and sisters "suffer some more! I stand shoulder to shoulder with your tormentors."
Ecce homo
A Black man will say to the Palestinians, "What, are you morons? You were offered peace and instead, choose to send missles in a genocidal rampage. You have asked for death and you whine because it was delivered? Morons!"
Rather arrogant of Michael Gross to assume that his definition of one's duties as a citizen, which appears to me to be that one should support the party in power, is the only one. Of course, being a citizen who stands up against the policies of a current administration might lead to being an unemployed citizen, but physicians who do not support policies they consider repugnant are not failing in their duties as citizens – to the contrary.
r – I am waiting still to see what events transpire. It isn't possible for Obama to change the US superstructure overnight, and I'm interested in what he is doing, day by day. My appreciation of him has grown from former disinterest since the primaries ended, rather than being long-standing, and I think that spared me the disillusionment so many seem to be experiencing.
sirens sounding. traffic stopped. all fall to the ground. attack?

No democracy, other than Israel, has ever employed torture within the law.
– Alan Dershowitz
The use of force, mental torture, threats, insults, or exposure to unpleasant and inhumane treatment of any kind is prohibited by law and is neither authorized nor condoned by the US Government. Experience indicates that the use of force is not necessary to gain the cooperation of sources for interrogation. Therefore, the use of force is a poor technique, as it yields unreliable results, may damage subsequent collection efforts, and can induce the source to say whatever he thinks the interrogator wants to hear.
– Army Field Manual
The Geneva Conventions are so outdated and are written so broadly that they have become a sword used by terrorists to kill civilians, rather than a shield to protect civilians from terrorists. These international laws have become part of the problem, rather than part of the solution.
– Alan Dershowitz
Torture is clearly illegal under the US Constitution and international law, but that has not interfered with its practice on massive scale by the US government since at least the Philippine colonization (–The Japanese copied
the torture tactics the US used in the Philippines and used them on American POWs). However, it has never before been attempted to be legitimized until the Bush administration.

Dershowitz advocates the use of "torture warrants" under the "ticking time bomb" scenario, a scenario that actually rarely occurs.
@ Chris Berel
"A Black man will say…"
LOL
Chris is always saying such things. My favorite is when he speaks for how all Americans think on an issue–you know the issue.
"Dershowitz advocates the use of "torture warrants" under the "ticking time bomb" scenario, a scenario that actually rarely occurs"
for dershowitz any one not bowing to israel is a ticking time bomb

Quality post there Berel.
lol…
"In a national security crisis, I believe our duties as citizens take precedence."
Why, that's pure elixer of facism, ain't it? When isn't there a "national security crisis"? We've been in one since I've been alive, which is a hell of a lot shorter time than you would think from looking at me, but still well over fifty years.
Okay, you saw Berel's post. Now, can we seriously entertain my theory that support of Zionism by American Jews seems to induce the same psychological symptoms and syndrones as continued cocaine abuse.
Go look 'em up. The finest Peruvian flake, or uncut Ziocaine, it amounts to the same thing.
