It projects an aura of rebellion, a lion with a bigger mane. In the financial services industry, it's an indicia of someone who moves to his own beat, while everyone else in the business falls into a stupefying conformity with short hairstyles. Also, there is a sense of superiority versus the balding dudes — "if you got it, flaunt it."
men are often a very insecure and conformist lot.. short hair is conforming to some conservative bent as i see it.. male politicians are conformists.. being a banker – same thing… it seems the only men who let themselves live outside this realm are either involved in the arts or street people, both often having more then a few things in common! did i mention i need to get my hair cut? lol.
I think you would have to sort the list by marriage status to eke any consistent conclusions from this tangled skein. If I tried to grow shoulder length hair, my wife would never let me hear the end of it. She reacts to middle-aged guys with pony tails just a little more tolerantly than Hitler did to the Jews in Vienna.
But if it was up to me, I'd look just like a Jewish Robert Plant.

Why would you want to look like Elaine Boozler?
