The title of this post comes from a series called "Don't say we didn't know" that is put out by the Israeli activist Amos Gvirtz. Gvirtz sends out short snippets of information outlining the realities of the Israeli occupation so that Israelis cannot pretend they did not know what was going on under their noses. The same holds true for the international community. Once it's too late to save a just peace in Israel/Palestine, don't say we didn't see it coming.
How many Jews were living in Gaza when Mondoweiss was reporting on the facts on the ground there? I seemed to have missed the count. You wouldn't know what an ethnic cleansing was if someone grabbed you by your scrawny neck and rubbed your face in a pile of it.

If you really want to feel ashamed of what our people did, i suggest that you read The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine by Israeli professor Ilan Pappe. His book is well documented and tells a story that should make any human being with a shred of decency cringe as Pappe relates deliberate purge of the people who were not responsible for the Holocaust or for what Europeans did. Al-Jazeera is unbalanced? The reason why Al-Jazeera came into existence and is doing remarkably well is because the US mainstream media acted like cheerleaders to the War in Iraq instead of giving impartial coverage. The journalists are given full editorial control in Al-Jazeera and there is no interference from the owners – something unheard of in most US and UK media outlets who always have a motive.
Al-Jazeera is superb, and I am royally pissed that the Lobby sought to ban it in this country. It was created by top reporters and producers at the BBC in the early 90s who saw a need for real news in the ME. It is the only paper/broadcast outfit that I know that has a code of ethics. Al Jazeera Arabic is much better than the BBC, CNN, TV5 or any other of the dozens of news networks that are available to us in the Arab world. It's much better than Al Jazeera English, as well. For one thing, news broadcasts are a full 60 minutes, which allows them time to provide context and background and to get analysis from different, usually conflicting points of view (including the Israeli and American). For another, there's little "fluff" and 'infotainment' junk; the emphasis is on the serious, weighty issues of the day. Compared to the dumbed-down ADD crap that passes for "news" on most Western networks, Al Jazeera is a breath of fresh air. It's a crying shame there's nothing like it in English.
