Peter Galbraith, former U.S. ambassador and adviser to leading Democrats, Biden and Kerry, describes himself as an "unpaid ambassador of the Kurds" and helped broker the deal to get Kurds into the Iraqi government. Now he stands to gain more than $100 million from Kurdish oil profits. The Times catches up with what Bruce Wolman says is an old story in the Norwegian press. (Galbraith says his official duties never involved this issue.)

A great headline.
i wondered that it might be misleading, but thanks james!
Galbraith was a phony when involved with the Kosovo War; apparently he’s back in the game.
Of course its misleading. How does the story relate to that at all?
At least you are not saying that the Iraq War was fought primarily for Israel.
But that would be truthful that in fact everything in the world has the base of concrete that it is ALWAYS done for the rogue aparthied thing called a state named israel.
just as hammas whom was elected democratically did not please and apease what the aparthied wanted, (which would have been voted out in the following election anyway)
but none the less the usa gave 84 m in military aid to the very people whom poisoned Arafat, to then do the bidding….see what happens when money is paid to criminal elements, look at afganistan who’s bother is in charge of the biggest poppy field the puppet the usa put in. all wars have some underline cause and seemingly enough it is israel whom benefits, look at the nuclear issue with iran, it take and inriches only up to 3.5% when any weapons grade material can not be made with their present technology, but none the less the invasion drums are being beaten for whom …the aparthied state of yes you guessed it israel. Is there nothing they do not control in the earth…oh yes me taking a poop. There has never been a resolution followed by the aparthied whom justifies hammas as being GUILTY of war crimes when the germans and nuremberg did not do the same for the stern gang and others fighting off the nazis, which is no different then hammas or any faction using what ever means needed at hand to fight against an aparthied occupation which commits crimes against humanity.
And if that insult to ijury is not enough the usa public being dumbed down as if any president has anything to stop the atrosities of the zionists, people actually do not realize the people with the power to do these things for so many years are the very same people that are in positions with more power than any president of the usa. And when they try they wind up as kennedy and so many others dead from assasination or a mysterious cancer or illness. Look at what has been written by the rabbi giving the green light to kill anyone even babies (which they do) , if any other people or person did the same the sanctions and bombardment would have been done inside of 24 hours , except for israel, whom by the way has more weapons grade plutonium illegally and has never allowed access to it for inspection. Too bad for all the countries that could be democratic in the middle east, if it wasn’t for the example of the aparthied whom does as it pleases where it pleases and to whom it pleases. It is if the world had let germany just execute or what ever anyone of non german decent and look who benefited, not the gypies and not the othernationalities whom where offed, the zionist monopolized that into what we have today, it didn’t matter not to have been non german you just had to be a jew to count ..cause non of the other victims have ever counted. I hope if the situation does ever change there will be a NEVER AGAIN for the palestinians as well as reparations for them and the relatives as it is for the jews…but don’t hold you breath cause it is a jewish person that mattered not anyone else..again and again. You all that are in these blogs should be pressuring the aparthied as well as the usa for the crazy schemes that have been plagueing the world which are caused by the supporters of an aparthied and one sided issues that benefit only “the chosen ones”, they are not chosen that was a lie and so is the god thing, and when the world comes to grips with that fact maybe then the zionist question can be delt with properly. But I would always suggest it start in the governments first and not the civilians they are just following the brainwashing “so called leaders” like lemmings.
So what is the point of the website here …just to hear yourselves play a tid bit and thensome and maybe you will be able to look at your selves in the mirror anyother day and say, “I did my part” the only part being played is the part that no one is on the whitehouse steps and the three branches of governments steps screaming “stop the madness” we are not a party to and do not support the atrosities and one sided play on what is fair and not fair. It unfortunately has reached a point where nothing really will change because none of the jewish people are in line with that and are afraid of the retaliation by the rogue elements put forth by those in charge, which brings me to the point of whom is electing these very same people to do nothing for so many years…beside the supporters.
I believe the point of this site is to analyze the situation in the Middle East.
But more importantly its a forum where people especially people of a Jewish heritage can discuss how the I/P conflict effects them, and how they can go about aiding a just solution to the problem. Sure, there aren’t many people echoing many of the view points here on the steps of the White House, but at least there is now a place for these things to be discussed on an intellectual level.
I also believe that there is a level of sensitivity that must be extended to everyone involved in the I/P conflict, including racist settlers. This does not mean that Palestinian rights must be compromised to appease irrational players, but that we shouldn’t see Palestinians getting their rights as a form of revenge against the Israelis.
Yes Israel was built on the blood of Palestinian refugees, Israel continues to ethnically cleanse, occupy, murder, and brutalize an entire people, while at the same time playing the victim card. Its sickening, its disgusting, but it doesn’t mean they are any less human. By hearing people of Jewish heritage and also Israeli’s talk about the situation we get a glimpse into why the Israeli’s have acted the way they did. By understanding that perspective we can get to a solution and an understanding that is far more beneficial to both sides and won’t lead to a solution that will involve a form of blood letting that will eventually lead us to another I/P conflict.
This blog fascinates me because I get to see Jewish people reconcile with Zionism, and try to create a future for themselves where Zionism is either non-existent or a minor player. After 100 years of Zionism being a major factor in the lives of many Jews around the world, it will be interesting to see how that reconciliation pans out.
I’m not sure about this “level of sensitivity to racist settlers.” I think it’s worthwhile attempting to understand the racist settlers, just as it’s worthwhile to try to comprehend the mind of a serial killer of psychopath, to understand how to prevent these people from doing harm. But I’m not going so far as to show any sensitivity to their feelings or legitimatize them in any way.
Very well said, James.
I would add that, though they behave monstrously, even extremist settlers can change, as I would expect they are fueled primarily by (still inexcusable) ignorance. I once had the opportunity to listen to an ex-settler from Combatants for Peace. He physically harassed Palestinians in Hebron, essentially for sport, before changing his viewpoint 180 degrees. This is not to disagree with, but more to complement your post potsherd. Settlers should be held fully accountable for what they do, but even they are potential allies.
I would say a little misleading but well justified considering the context of the situation. When conflict of interests take place in the “third world” some western “pundits” are always ready to cry blue murder. The same “pundits” seem to have a strange myopia when it comes to one of their own.
