The spiritual error of the Iraq-war neoconservatives is that they took on their fathers’ baggage rather than doing like Huck and getting rid of dad and lighting out for the territory. Their fathers were haunted by the Holocaust, and the sons took on this haunting rather than looking around and seeing what the new Jewish condition in America was.
This is a long way of saying that if you go on the Commentary Magazine cruise to Alaska, you get to hang out with four members of the Podhoretz family, mom, dad, son, son-in-law. Fun!

MY COMMENT: OK, but will ‘Miss Sarah’ be there hawking her book?
RE: “you get to hang out with four members of the Podhoretz family”
MY COMMENT: Will Norman be wearing the ‘Presidential Medal of Freedom’ Bush awarded him in 2004?
FROM WIKIPEDIA – Podhoretz has praised former United States President George W. Bush: “George W. Bush (is) a man who knows evil when he sees it [i.e. looks in the mirror - JLD] and who has demonstrated an unfailingly courageous willingness to endure vilification and contumely in setting his face against it.” He goes on to claim that Bush has been “battered more mercilessly and with less justification than any other in living memory.”[12][16]
Phil Weiss argues, “Their fathers were haunted by the Holocaust, and the sons took on this haunting rather than looking around and seeing what the new Jewish condition in America was.”
But America does not describe the world. Antisemitism has not disappeared from the world even if it is at a low ebb in America. You are suggesting that the young neoconservatives should have abandoned Israel to the wolves because America is a safe place for Jews.
(There are valid arguments to be made against the neoconservative world view and indeed against support for Israel, but this is not one of them.)
Blah-blah-balh.
In Hebrew that’s “halb- halb- halb”.
Gosh, Wondering Jew, I’ve only been around somewhat (only my hairdresser…) over fifty years. Please tell me, if anti-Semitism is at a “low ebb” in America, what was it’s high point? The kidnapping into slavery of Africa’s Jewish population? A hundred and fifty years of Jim Crowstein Laws? Americans sending Jews to work and death camps in the Adirondacks in the 1940s? Is that when the Borscht Belt tightened a few notches?
See, I have this genetic defect, very tragic, and highly unusual in a Jew, I can’t remember what happened before I was born! My doctor Zionstein wants to prescribe ziocaine, but I’m leery of the stuff.
So please tell us about the high points of American anti-Semitism.
Please, Wondering Jew, take us “trampling through the warehouse where the Drapes of Roth are stored”
