And to think of it all, Mitchell negotiated a peace concerned with Irish who have lived in Ireland forever, and now he was sent to negotiate a peace between the naturally grown people of the former Palestine Mandate lands, and the intruders from Europe and the US. Mitchell’s a goy. He does not get it; even if he does, he is helpless. AIPAC owns Obama, as it did Bush Jr. Americans should care less except their tax dollars and sons and daughters are being spent to insure Israel hegemony in the oil-rich Middle East.

  2. Rehmat says:

George Mitchell should have long resigned – but prefered to carry on his ‘mission’ based on his fancy tha Israel too is just like other countries – he was given credit for ‘solving the problem’. George refused to realize that his clients in the pst were not recent hardcore racist Europeans like he was dealing with in the occpied Palestine. Shortly after his election, Binyamin Netanyahu told Obama’s envoy George J. Mitchell that Palestinians must recognize Israel as a Jewish state before there could be any progress toward peace. Netanyahu also said he would accept only “limited Palestinian self-rule,” a term Israeli leaders use to mean giving Palestinians in West Bank cities control over not much more than garbage collection and street maintenance……

Mitchell is not up to his charge. There’s a difference between former colonized Ireland and
presently colonized Israel. As to Ireland, the outside predators were attacking-exploiting native people; as to Israel, the predators are much more alien.

Not looking good. Not looking good. Ignoring why so many people from that part of the world are willing to blow themselves up to take out Americans.

  5. Larry says:

When I saw Mitchell on Charlie Rose recently I realized how completely out of touch with reality he is – the reality of Middle East politics. He has no idea that he is battling AIPAC and not simply a regional problem that in ordinary circumstances could be worked out. In Northern Ireland the various parties were left alone to deal with their problems with the US as a relatively fair broker. Here the US is sitting side by side with Israel. In dealing with Israel Mitchell is like David fighting Goliath without even a pebble.
And since Mitchell is Irish-Lebanese American, I knew he would never be able to push Israel into anything meaningful since he would be called “pro-Arab” because of his background.
By the way, how do you spell Kissinger?

  6. Humiliation doesn’t apply in politics. Look at Hils. The Brits did use to have a tradition that a minister might resign if he wasn’t being effective, but they were independently wealthy. In the US, a government job is not a job of choice, but it’s a job, and they go through the motions.

  7. Eva Smagacz says:

Lieberman’s gentlemanly approach to Mitchell was seen in its full glory when he would stand up mid sentence and leave the room if and when Mitchell would mention East Jerusalem.

This is how Israel’s government treats US envoys. I wonder what humiliations were heaped on Condi Rice.

    • MHughes976 says:

I remember Condi’s body language as she was subjected to sticky embraces by male Israeli politicians as she shuttled around during the 06 war. There must be many who have to demonstrate undying loyalty to Israel as a condition of their own political existence and who feel the full force and ruthlessness of Israeli influence but in their hearts hate and resent being kept under such tight and undignified control.

  8. Avi says:

Even Hillary wasn’t willing to humiliate herself at the hands of Israel. So, Obama sent Mitchel instead. Now Mitchel takes the fall and everyone gets to go back to business as usual. How convenient for Obama.

  9. Taxi says:

Fuck would I love to know the details behind why Obama ‘backed-off’ his demand for a settlement-freeze!
