Gaza photo exhibit faces censorship threat in Montreal

Muzzlewatch has a disgusting story about an exhibit of photos from Gaza that has been featured for the last few weeks at a Montreal cinema, but may be coming down. Emphasis mine:

On Monday, Feb. 15th, Cinema du Parc received an email insisting that CJPME’s Photo Exposition, Human Drama in Gaza, be immediately removed from the Cinema.  The email was from a legal representative of Gestion Redbourne PDP Inc., the owners of the building housing Cinema du Parc.  The Cinema has hosted dozens of expositions in the past three years, and this is the first time that such action has been taken.  This move on the part of Redbourne seems entirely political, to muzzle the message of Human Drama in Gaza.

Go to this site–Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East, which sponsors the show–to sign a petition on the censorship.

(Oh, and picking up on the italicized passage– for those who don’t believe in the Israel lobby theory: would a similar exhibition of photos from, say, Iraq or Afghanistan be censored?)

One thing the Israel lobby is good at is spreading fascism wherever it drops anchor. After 9/11, we kept hearing how criticizing radical Islam, and the Muslim world in general was protected speech, you know, as part of every Canadian’s freedom to free speech.

Lo and behold, now that the time has come to actually put forth something of value, something that can contribute to the humanization of Palestinians and their suffering, instead of hate speech aimed at vilifying Arabs, Canada sides with The Fascist Lobby.

Dumb citizenry deserves its leadership. Canada, Harper, Bush, Obama and the US all deserve each other. Enjoy it.

I wonder of there’s anything more to the story. At the very least, I’d like to know what reason Redbourne gave for their demand. It may very well be political — I suspect that it is. But how can CJPME be so certain? If I had that information, I’d gladly protest to Redbourne and even boycott their businesses (insofar as I can — they happen to dominate much of Montreal).

Hey now! There’s more complexity to Canadian politics than just a “dumb citizenry”. At any rate, this comment was a bit of a non-sequitur. You should also learn the definition of “Fascism”.
