Europe is impatient and Israel says it should chill. In the International Herald Tribune, Israel’s ambassador to Ireland, Zion Evrony, is given a platform to instruct Palestinians to have patience if they want freedom. Because the Israelis must have many reassurances from them first before such a thing can come to pass.
For Israel, the vital interest is its recognition by Palestinians as the nation-state of the Jewish people, existing with adequate security arrangements alongside a demilitarized Palestinian state. For Palestinians, the vital interest is independence and freedom within their own state.

I remember the fierce urgency of the Jews in D.P. camps after World War II–how that situation led to the creation of Israel–and wonder if Gaza has not built some of the same urgency in Europe about Palestinian self-determination. And I remember that if it had been left up to the Indians to dictate the terms of the Pakistani state, there would be no Pakistan to this day.
Perhaps an all out war in the Middle East will be a good thing, after all.

They’re not like us, you see. They are satisfied with shiny trinkets, and the security of their children does not mean the same thing to them that the security of our children means to us. Even their understanding of freedom is not the same as ours. More importantly perhaps, their concept of time is very different from ours. They think in terms of natural cycles and historical aeons. It’s all the same to them whether they get their trinkets now or a hundred years from now. It is an insult to their “culture” to try to impose our conceptions and concerns on them, and we must always remember that in their “culture”, honour is paramount. Clever of me to quote Yeats, wasn’t it? It just shows how much we have in common. I’ll bet Arab ambassadors never quote Irish poets.

Wanting real security for their children thats a laugh, when I see little girls writting on live bombs “this is for the children of gaza”. As for the palestinians there are too many traders there most likely as a result of all the shell shocked and drug enduced and money they receive to sell out or die. There will never ever be a state for palestine and the agreesors will get the justice in the form of all out war, not if but when.
