I watched the memorial service for the Fogel family, murdered in the Itamar settlement, here, at the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations.
There’s a lot of anger and stirring hatred in listeners so far as I could tell. The demons are Amalek, terrorists and Abbas and Fayyad. Though these are not exact quotes, these were the sentiments: Remember what Amalek did to you and never forget. A murder by a modern-day Amalek — savages, beasts, monsters. We will also remember the people who rejoiced and we will never forget them either. Those terrorists responsible for this are equivalent to Nazis.. This was an attack on the state of Israel. Anti-Israel and anti-Jewish sentiment was started by Abbas and Fayyad. It’s not where they lived that brought this about. It was because they were Jews living in Israel. There should be not “buts” in condemning this. (Yet look at Conference of Presidents statement with its “buts” regarding Rachel Corrie killing and flotilla.) “They [the Fogels] are the royalty of Israel, the ones who have been willing to sacrifice for love of land and people, in ways that we should be willing to sacrifice as well.” “And they have paid with their lives for their love of the land.”
