well there slip was showing and then it wasn’t….
“… Jeffery Wiesenfeld has abused his position as CUNY Trustee …”
I motion we introduce a new phrase “Wiesen-ed” to describe someone or an act of a person who abuses their position of power to silence critics of Israel’s discriminatory policies against Palestinians.
In CUNY BoT form your silence results in unanimous approval. Meeting adjourned. Thank you folks.
A quick survey of the CUNY Board of Trustees makes this whole fiasco even more absurd … and troubling. At least seven of the seventeen members are persons of color. Numerous advanced degrees (though more education often correlates with being more narrow-minded, albeit it more decorously so, in my observation).
Wiesenfeld has also been a board member of the Washington ‘Institute’ for Near East Policy — a good indicator of rabidly pro-Israel bigotry. But he is among the least well-educated of the CUNY board members (so I am effectively contradicting myself on the issue of education).
The overwhelming impression I get is that these were people cowed by wealth and by the threat of being charged with anti-Semitism, a threat clearly echoed by Benno Schmidt, who should certainly join Wiesenfeld in resigning.
@hughsansom,
I agree it is troubling, but it’s not absurd; as a matter of fact, it’s entirely logical and reasonable. These “persons of color” and the other board members are shaking in their shoes about being labeled as not supportive enough of Israel, or, heaven forbid, being seen as pro-Palestinian. Recent past history has shown that their advanced degrees will not protect them from the fanaticism of the commisars of Zion, who will see to it that they lose their positions. Why, many are not even Jewish!!!

Backlash is a bitch, ain’t it? Kiss that Zionist privilege goodbye. The dam is breached.
This is one very positive development. But everything is still going at snails’ pace…
better a snails pace in the right direction than a cheetah’s in the wrong.
I hope he rejects it. After all, who would want such a tainted honour, when they were forced to give it to him, against their will? The least we ought to expect is for Weasel to resign.

Kristofer Peterson-Overton (Wiesenfeld’s previous victim) reckons the whole board should be abolished, and rails against the corporatisation of university education:
