Do you deny Israel’s right to exist in a lowcut red dress?

File under: "I thought I'd seen it all." Dimi Reider introduces us to one of the most outlandish ("excruciatingly bad") attempts at hasbara I've ever seen.

+972 was able to confirm through a source the video was commissioned by the GOI.

,

Is this for real? Your guess is as good as mine. This is so embarrassingly counterproductive one feels it simply has to be satire. But then again, so is our foreign policy.

Reider's assessment of the video is right on, I recommend the link.

(Hat tip ddi)

Update: Benjamin Doherty has an update at Electronic Intifada giving some background on the video:

[Dimi Reider] identified the actress as Aimee Neistat. Max Blumenthal looked further and found that "Neistat is a Haaretz employee who translates Hebrew content into English." She also wrote articles for The Jerusalem Post between 2007 and 2010.

The Electronic Intifada has learned that Zed Films produced the short video. Gil Roeh, the founder of Zed Films, wrote the script. The actor in the film is named Björn Nordholm. These facts were on the Zed Films web site as "recent news" on 22 June 2011 but have since been scrubbed. The Google cache of the page states:

"Rorschach test" video

We finished filming to "Rorschach test" video Staring Aimee Neistat and Bjorn Nordholm, Script: Gil Roeh.. Editing now. The video we'll [sic] be out soon..

  1. I thought it was funny, not ridiculous.

    • LeaNder says:

      Well, maybe you are the target group. I always entertained the suspicion , if you have any at all, you must have a strange sense of humor.

      Were you very aroused by what is offered? Did the Patriarch in you enjoy the pseudo-helpless piece of flesh on sale?

      Amazingly cheap, poor girl, unfortunately for me +972 is down.

      Oh, by the way, did you inspire it with your deep love for “Rohrs(c)hach”.

    • I thought it was ridonkulous.

    • Donald says:

      If it were an intentional satire of Israeli narcissism I would have thought it over-the-top, but since it was meant as a defense of Israel I would have been wrong.

    • I’m no psychologist, but I would venture to say that this video is symptomatic of a very sick, disturbed national psyche.
      It’s almost as though the video was scripted and directed by a former nightclub bouncer!
      I’m also wondering whether this might be another Caroline Glick Production, because it truly seems to reek of “old Chicago”. Think Al Capone and the boys.
      * Glick is an old Chicago “girl”.

    Max Blumenthal confirmed that the actress is a staffer at Haaretz. Now here’s what the UN fact finding mission described the same event dramatized by the video. First how they treated an American citizen:

    Furkan Doğan, a 19-year-old with dual Turkish and United States citizenship, was on the central area of the top deck filming with a small video camera when he was first hit with live fire. It appears that he was lying on the deck in a conscious, or semi-conscious, state for some time. In total Furkan received five bullet wounds, to the face, head, back thorax, left leg and foot. All of the entry wounds were on the back of his body, except for the face wound which entered to the right of his nose. According to forensic analysis, tattooing around the wound in his face indicates that the shot was delivered at point blank range. Furthermore, the trajectory of the wound, from bottom to top, together with a vital abrasion to the left shoulder that could be consistent with the bullet exit point, is compatible with the shot being received while he was lying on the ground on his back. The other wounds were not the result of firing in contact, near contact or close range, but it is not otherwise possible to determine the exact firing range. The wounds to the leg and foot were most likely received in a standing position.

    And the UN report confirmed the passengers were unarmed:

    The Mission has found no evidence to suggest that any of the passengers used firearms or that any firearms were taken on board the ship. Despite requests, the Mission has not received any medical records or other substantiated information from the Israeli authorities regarding any firearm injuries sustained by soldiers participating in the raid. Doctors examined the three soldiers taken below decks and no firearm injuries were noted. Further, the Mission finds that the Israeli accounts so inconsistent and contradictory with regard to evidence of alleged firearms injuries to Israeli soldiers that it has to reject it.

    The woman was so abused. Here is the reality of abuse:

    In the process of being detained, or while kneeling on the outer decks for several hours, there was physical abuse of passengers by the Israeli forces, including kicking and punching and being hit with the butts of rifles. One foreign correspondent, on board in his professional capacity, was thrown on the ground and kicked and beaten before being handcuffed. The passengers were not allowed to speak or to move and there were frequent instances of verbal abuse, including derogatory sexual remarks about the female passengers. Passengers were denied access to toilet facilities or made to wait for lengthy periods before being escorted to the toilet and then forced to use the toilet with Israeli soldiers watching and while handcuffed. Some passengers were in serious discomfort as a result, while others used makeshift receptacles, such as plastic bottles and others still were forced to urinate on themselves. The Israeli forces also employed dogs and some passengers received dog-bite wounds. Some witnesses who suffer from chronic medical conditions, such as diabetes or heart conditions, were not provided access to their required medicines, which were taken by Israeli soldiers.

    As part of the Mission’s conclusions:

    The Mission considers that several violations and offences have been committed. It is not satisfied that, in the time available, it has been able to compile a comprehensive list of all offences. However, there is clear evidence to support prosecutions of the following crimes within the terms of article 147 of the Fourth Geneva Convention:
    • Wilful killing;
    • Torture or inhuman treatment;
    • Wilfully causing great suffering or serious injury to body or health.

    The Mission also considers that a series of violations of Israel’s obligations under international human rights law have taken place, including:

    • Right to life (art. 6, International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights);
    • Torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment (art. 7, International Covenant; Convention against Torture);
    • Right to liberty and security of the person and freedom from arbitrary arrest or detention (art. 9, International Covenant);
    • Right of detainees to be treated with humanity and respect for the inherent dignity of the human person (art. 10, International Covenant);
    • Freedom of expression (art. 19, International Covenant).
    The right to an effective remedy should be guaranteed to all victims. The mission must not be understood to be saying that this is a comprehensive list by any means.

    • Kathleen says:

      Excellent.

      Should have some beautiful young women in red dresses reading the UN report…the executions on the Mavi Marmara. Or not. This clip is pathetic absolutely pathetic. Do they really think this is effective?

  5. Taxi says:

    Hahahaha Apartheid israel as damsel in distress!

    With her blood-red dress stinking of desperation!

    LOL it was like watching the (boring) beginning of a soft-porn movie aimed at horny old toads! Hasbara trying to use sex and sexuality (sexwash?) to cover it’s inherent criminal sadism.

    But the worst about it all you gotta admit is the ACTING! Gotta be the same bizarre school of acting that gay Mark, you know the alleged Flotilla 2 reject from last week’s hasbara hoax, graduated from. Hasbara Hoax Productions strikes again oooyeah! Boy I DO look forward to next week’s masterpiece and I hope we get one per week for the rest of the summer!

    But seriously folks, there will come a time in the future when history STUDIES these videos, and their verdict I assure you will be humorless and far graver than my flippant dismissal.

    • Sumud says:

      Actually, it’s wrong and perfect at the same time.

      Casting “Israel” as a paranoid schizophrenic, almost completely detached from reality, really does cut to the heart of the matter.

      Israel’s PR-videos are failing so hard that I almost feel sorry for them.

  6. alec says:

    The Israelis have completely lost it.

    Not the first time in history this has happened.

    I wonder where they plan to show this. If this is going to be shown in Israel why is it in English?

    • Taxi says:

      It’s designed for the worldwide web, an internet campaign. And English is the 3rd most spoken language in the world (Chinese is first followed by Spanish).

      • libra says:

        Taxi: “It’s designed for the worldwide web, an internet campaign.”

        I’m just wondering which web2.0 evangelist pitched the idea in the first place? And just where could they have picked up the bizarre association between “flotilla” and “Rorschach”?

        Sadly, I don’t think we’ll ever get any answers. I can’t see anyone owning up to such a turkey.

    The weirdness of mixing sexual and criminal Zionist themes seems to have roots in non-Zionist ethnic Ashkenazi culture, for we also see a similar combination of sexual violence fantasy and revolution in Judeo-Bolshevik literature.

    Sex and Revolution in Judeo-Bolshevism

    On pp. 199-203 of The Jewish Century, Slezkine writes:

    No icon better expresses the essence of that age (Kultura 1 [or the Heroic Age of the Russian Revolution], in Vladimir Paperny’s terminology ) than El Lissitzky’s Beat the Whites with the Red Wedge. The “three-edged frankness of the bayonet” and the “sharp-angled face” of Feliks Dzerzhinsky were aimed at the “crusty gut of the earth’s routine” and indeed everything dull, round, or predictably rectangular. According to one of the prophets of the revolutionary avant-garde, Vassily Kandinsky, the triangle was more “sharp-witted” than the square and less philistine than the circle. It was also much more Mercurian than Apollonian, and therefore-stylistically-much more Jewish than Russian. Jewishness was not the only way of representing the triangle’ but it was one of the more familiar and aesthetically convincing. Levinson’s “red wedge of a beard,” Mindlov’s angular movements, Rozov’s knifelike figure were all references to the traditional and pervasive iconography of Mercurianism. According to one of Ilya Ehrenburg’s characters (a Chekist), Lenin might be a sphere; Bukharin was a straight line; but Trotsky, “the chess player and the chief of the steppe hordes, disciplined and lined up under the banner of the twenty-one theses of some resolution-that one is a triangle.” And according to Arosev’s Terenty the Forgotten, “if I were a futurist artist, I would represent Trotsky as two downward -pointing triangles: a small triangle-the face-on top of a large triangle-the body.”153

    One obvious reading of the wedge-over-circle imagery is violence (“beat the whites”); the other is sex (love). Eduard Bagritsky portrayed both. His poem “February,” written in 1933-34 and published posthumously, is about “a little Hebrew boy” who loves books about birds (the same birds, presumably, that adorned Galina Apollonovna’s robe and inhabited Efim Nikitich Smolich’s realm of “nature”):

    Birds that appeared like weird letters,
    Sabers and trumpets, spheres and diamonds.

    The Archer must have been detained
    Above the darkness of our dwelling,
    Above the proverbial Jewish odor

    Of goose fat, above the continuous droning
    Of tedious prayers, above the beards

    In family albums …

    As a young man, he falls in love with a girl with golden hair, a green dress, and “a nightingale quiver” in her eyes, “all of her as if flung wide open to the coolness of the sea, the sun, and the birds.” Every day, as she walks home from school, he follows her “like a murderer, stumbling over benches and bumping into people and trees,” thinking of her “as a fabulous bird who had fluttered off the pages of a picture book” and wondering how he, “born of a Hebrew and circumcised on the seventh [sic] day,” has become a bird catcher. Finally, he gathers up his courage and runs toward her.

    All those books I’d read in the evenings
    Hungry and sick, my shirt unbuttoned
    About birds from exotic places,

    About people from distant planets,
    About worlds where rich men play tennis,
    Drink lemonade, and kiss languid women,
    All those things were moving before me,
    Wearing a dress and swinging a satchel. ..

    He runs beside her “like a beggar, bowing deferentially” and “mumbling some nonsense.” She stops and tells him to leave her alone, pointing toward the intersection. And there,

    Fat-bellied and greasy with perspiration,
    Stands the policeman,

    Squeezed into high boots,

    Pumped up with vodka and stuffed full of bacon ….

    Then comes the February Revolution, and he becomes a deputy commissar, a catcher of horse thieves and burglars, “an angel of death with a flashlight and a revolver, surrounded by four sailors from a battleship.”

    My Hebrew pride sang out as clearly,

    As a tight string stretched out to its limit.
    I would have given much for my forefather
    In his long caftan, his hat with a fox tail
    From under which, like a silvery spiral,
    His earlock crawled out, and a thick cloud of dandruff

    Floated over the square of his beard,
    For him to be able to spot his descendant

    In this strapping fellow who loomed like a tower
    Over the bristling guns and the headlights,
    Over the truck.that had shattered midnight ….

    One night, he is sent to arrest some gangsters, and there, in a suffocating brothel reeking of face powder, semen, and sweet liqueur, he finds her-”the one who had tormented me with her nightingale gaze.” She is bare-shouldered and bare-legged, half asleep and smoking a cigarette. He asks her if she recognizes him, and offers her money.

    Without opening her mouth, she whispered softly, ”
    Please have some pity! I don’t need the money!”

    Throwing her the money,

    I barged into-

    Without pulling off my high boots, or my holster,
    Without taking off my regulation trench coat
    The abysmal softness of the blanket

    Under which so many men had sighed,

    Flung about, and throbbed, into the darkness
    Of the swirling stream of fuzzy visions,

    Sudden screams and unencumbered movements,
    Blackness, and ferocious, blinding light …

    I am taking you because so timid

    Have I always been, and to take vengeance
    For the shame of my exiled forefathers
    And the twitter of an unknown fledgling!

    I am taking you to wreak my vengeance
    On the world I could not get away from!

    Welcome me into your barren vastness,
    In which grass cannot take root and sprout,
    And perhaps my night seed may succeed in
    Fertilizing your forbidding desert.

    There’ll be rainfalls, southern winds will bluster,
    Swans will make their calls of tender passion.154″

    According to Stanislav Kuniaev, this is the rape of Russia celebrated by “the poet of the openly Romantic ideal Zionism who does not distinguish between messianic ideas and pragmatic cruelty.” [my emphasis] According to Maxim D. Shrayer, this is “a dream of creating harmony between the Russian and Jewish currents in Jewish history, … a dream, if you wish, of a harmonious synthesis, which would lead to the blurring of all boundaries, i.e., to the formation of a Russian-Jewish identity …. Sexual intercourse with his former Russian beloved is the modicum of the protagonist’s revenge upon and liberation from the pre-revolutionary world of legal Jewish inequality and popular anti-Semitic prejudice.” And according to the protagonist himself, this is ‘his revenge on the world he “could not get away from”-the world of “goosefat,” “tedious prayers,” and “cloud[s] of dandruff.” The Jewish Revolution within the Russian Revolution was waged against “the shame of exiled forefathers” and for the “Hebrew pride” singing like a string; against the Russia of fat cheeks and for the Russia of Galina Apollonovna. It was a violent attempt to conceive a world of Mercuri an Apollonians, a Russia that would encompass the world.155

    • Shmuel says:

      Sex and revolution. Rape and revenge. How authentically and typically “ethnic Ashkenazi”. What, no quotes from the Talmud to explain this inherently Jewish obsession with sex and violence (or sex and propaganda)?

      • hophmi says:

        “The videoclip also reminded me of the soft porn stalag literature.”

        LOL. Sometimes a woman in a red dress is just a woman in a red dress.

        Then again, you write this: “The weirdness of mixing sexual and criminal Zionist themes seems to have roots in non-Zionist ethnic Ashkenazi culture, for we also see a similar combination of sexual violence fantasy and revolution in Judeo-Bolshevik literature.”

        So maybe it’s not surprise that someone as messed up as you obviously is reminded of soft-core when you see this video.

        • kalithea says:

          “So maybe it’s not surprise that someone as messed up as you obviously is reminded of soft-core when you see this video.”

          Don’t get all defensive. If you turn off the sound, what do you think it looks like, a disney film?

      • LeaNder says:

        Shmuel, this is Joachim, I guess, the best thing to do is not pay any attention. He has crossed the border between criticism and the love of right-wing lore very, very long ago.

        The really funny thing is that he calls his blog: Ethnic Ashkenazim Against Zionist Israel. Thus as shown above, he knows the Ashkenazim are really evil sex-and-violence-addicts while proudly claiming to be one of them, probably on an exorcist mission to deliver them from evil.

        • Shmuel says:

          Thanks LeaNder. I assure you it was no trouble at all :-)

        • GalenSword says:

          I have to point out that my article was almost entirely a quote from Slezkine and that there is an extensive internal Jewish literature on deviant Jewish sexuality. Obviously, Otto Weininger wrote extensively on the subject, e.g., Geschlecht und Charakter, but so did Max Nordau.

          There are earlier critiques of Eastern European Jewish intersexual relations: Judah Leon Gordon’s poem Kozo shel yod, which is loosely translated as “The Dot on the ‘I.’”

          This poetic satire tells the story of a Jewish woman and her inadequate husband.

          Gordon sees the strictures of Rabbinical law (Halakhah) as the problem. I am not sure that Jews of other ethnicities would have understood Gordon’s point of view at all.

        • LeaNder says:

          Interesting you mention Weininger, you should read Theodor Lessing’s Der Jüdische Selbsthass / Jewish Self-Hate; I have to admit I don’t have much use for the term these days, but concerning Weininger and the other guys he writes about it is a rather apt description. And yes, you somehow remind me of them. One of them desperately tried to get accepted by Hitler and the Nazis, if I remember well.

        • LeaNder says:

          I have to point out that my article was almost entirely a quote from Slezkine

          your problem isn’t what you read, I even remember that I wanted to save an American prof of Jewish studies you cited, who wrote a book that sounded interesting, unfortunately I didn’t save name and title. Your problem is more your reductionist tunnel vision every text you read gets squeezed in.

        • Mooser says:

          “there is an extensive internal Jewish literature on deviant Jewish sexuality”

          Nonsense! Completely out of the question. I know enough to keep certain aspects of my life private.
          However, there is one question which must be answered, however: “deviant Jewish sexuality”, is that a redundancy or a non sequitur?

        • Mooser says:

          “One of them desperately tried to get accepted by Hitler and the Nazis, if I remember well.”

          Well, if that isn’t the ultimate example of not joining any club which will accept you as a member, I don’t know what is.

          Oy, I can’t figure this whole self-hate thing out, I mean, how it ties in with anti-Semitism? So I can hate myself for being Jewish, but nobody else can?

  14. Israeli propaganda just gets worse and worse. It reminds me fizziks posts. Anyways, an alternative viewing of this POS would indicate that her pathology is clearly “liberal zionism” and she should be hospitalized.

  15. kalithea says:

    Do I deny that Israel’s a hysterical, delusional, paranoid bimbo with a consciousness of guilt eternally pimping her victimhood and in serious need of a shrink?

      The best movie on the conflict over Palestine is the remake of The Planet of the Apes.

      If you do not believe me, just consider the Semos is an anagram for Moses. In the original Planet of the Apes continuity, the liberator of the apes was named Caesar.

      The screenwriters were doing penance for all their work in the Israeli film industry.

      • Mooser says:

        “The best movie on the conflict over Palestine is the remake of The Planet of the Apes.”

        He clutches brow (not easy for an ungulate, believe me) and shouts: “Of course, it was staring me right in the face! How could I not see that!?!”

  17. nmi says:

    You have to always remember that Israelis are NOT normal Jews. Generally speaking, they aren’t terribly bright, so you have to pitch things to a pretty infantile level if you want to reach them, (which this video probably did fairly effectively).

    • annie says:

      You have to always remember that Israelis are NOT normal Jews. Generally speaking, they aren’t terribly bright, so you have to pitch things to a pretty infantile level if you want to reach them

      i think they’re probably about as bright as the average person. more stubborn perhaps, even a tad brainwashed with a dose of the fanatical as is common wrt all religious communities. but the chances there are more or less ‘terribly bright’ people in israel as compared to other places is unlikely. and what is a ‘normal jew’ anyway?

    • kalithea says:

      Lol! I love the way Israelis brag about how much they’ve accomplished and invented and then when you call them out on their embarrassing self-deception and tawdry propaganda all of a sudden they’re ignorant and “infantile” so don’t blame them for stooping so low.

      But the case is that Zionists are real, real conniving snakes and that never changes whether they’re pretending to know it all or playing DUMB.

    • hophmi says:

      “You have to always remember that Israelis are NOT normal Jews. Generally speaking, they aren’t terribly bright, so you have to pitch things to a pretty infantile level if you want to reach them, (which this video probably did fairly effectively).”

      Whatever floats your boat. I’m not aware of what constitutes a “normal Jew,” nor your qualifications to make that determination. As far as the intelligence of the average Israeli, I’m not into measuring such things. Of course, there are those here for whom any suggestion that Israelis have any positive characteristic is difficult to comprehend and any suggestion that the Israelis are successful at something an example of “chauvinism,” but Israel is the center of countless scientific, technical. and medical developments, has several well-respected universities, and so on.

      But, of course, those are just achievements and facts, and for those in the “Israelis are stupid bad people” school, factual arguments don’t mean much.

      • annie says:

        the “Israelis are stupid bad people” school

        you shouldn’t be placing those double quotes around that unless someone actually said it, there are other ways to make your point.

        • hophmi says:

          “you shouldn’t be placing those double quotes around that unless someone actually said it, there are other ways to make your point.”

          You must be kidding. I’m not going to be particular when people write things like: “Can’t we just say that all Zionists are dumb”

          Isn’t that pretty much the equivalent?

        • andrew r says:

          I wouldn’t say all Zionists are dumb. Callously self-centered, frothingly racist, and/or dumb, yes. Just not all dumb all the time.

        • annie says:

          i’m not kidding. is it so hard to use single quotes which indicates paraphrasing? i’m one of those finicky people that actually does check quotes. now you’re doubling down and doing it twice.

    • Mooser says:

      “You have to always remember that Israelis are NOT normal Jews. Generally speaking, they aren’t terribly bright”

      And another person shoots off his mouth, without having met me. If he did, I bet that opinion would be quickly revised!

  18. nmi says:

    Hi Annie,

    On this, I kind of go with Philip Roth:

    “Jews have a reputation for being intelligent, and they are intelligent. The only place I have ever been where all the Jews are stupid is Israel. “

    • annie says:

      he only gets away w/saying something like that because he’s jewish.

      I thought Pamela Geller lived in America?

      • nmi says:

        But Pam Geller stands out in the US like a sore thumb. Though our country too is cursed with a lot of nut cases, they still represent a minority. In Israel, no one would pay any attention to Pam Geller’s lunacy because the official government statements and the opinion of virtually 100% of the country are exactly the same as hers. For them, there is nothing outrageous in Pam Geller and therefore, nothing interesting.

        • annie says:

          the official government statements and the opinion of virtually 100% of the country are exactly the same

          you may want to do a rethink of this statement. i know, i cherry picked pam geller out of your sentence, but the 100% figure defies logic. try making your point without such sweeping statements.

        • nmi says:

          well–what we do know from the Tel Aviv poll is that 94% of Israelis enthusiastically supported Cast Lead.

          Further, it is the handful of actual peaceniks in Israel who incessantly make the point that a solution to the conflict has to be imposed on Israel from without because the peace movement there is, for all practical purposes, nonexistent.

        • hophmi says:

          “In Israel, no one would pay any attention to Pam Geller’s lunacy because the official government statements and the opinion of virtually 100% of the country are exactly the same as hers. For them, there is nothing outrageous in Pam Geller and therefore, nothing interesting.”

          Since you’ve already shown you know less than zero about Israel, you should probably avoid the sweeping statements.

          You’re worse than clueless.

        • nmi says:

          So the Tel Aviv poll, reflecting Israeli bloodthirstiness and racism was actually inaccurate?

          I see.

          You’ve got a good story there, hophead–take it to Ha’aretz.

        • hophmi says:

          “well–what we do know from the Tel Aviv poll is that 94% of Israelis enthusiastically supported Cast Lead. ”

          I think you added the word “enthusiastic.” About that number of Americans supported the war in Afghanistan in 2001, and Afghanistan didn’t attack us. I imagine if Canadians were lobbing rockets over the border at people in NY for years on end, 94% of the American people would support a military response.

        • Taxi says:

          hophmi,
          So like when are all you Russian and yankee israelis going back home?

          You honestly think that native Arabs are gonna let you foreign guys from another continent take over for much longer – you think they’re just gonna get fed up, give up just like that and give you EVERYTHING?

          You can have all the bigger bombs but you’re never gonna live in peace – ever ever ever.

          Don’t say I didn’t tell you so when all you violent zionist squatters start freaking out on camera cuz you’re been removed by force from occupied Palestine.

          I really would hate to be you when this happens. Actually I would hate to be you anyhow anyday everyday.

        • annie says:

          well–what we do know from the Tel Aviv poll is that 94% of Israelis enthusiastically supported Cast Lead.

          that would be a neat trick since almost 20% of israelis are palestinian israelis. i seriously doubt they support the extinction of their own people.

        • optimax says:

          If the US occupied Newfoundland, I wouldn’t blame Canada for lobbing missiles at us.

        • nmi says:

          “In a more realistic—and verifiable—reading of Israel’s ethnic diversity, a Tel Aviv University poll (1/4–6/09) found that although 94 percent of Jewish Israelis favored the (Cast Lead) operation (massacre) , only 81 percent of the overall population did—meaning a majority of Palestinian and other non-Jewish Israelis were opposed.”

          link to fair.org

          NINETY FOUR PERCENT of Israel’s Jews endorsed a horrifying massacre condemned by the world.

          I’m comfortable calling that unanimity of opinion. It’s close enough for me.

        • nmi says:

          “About that number of Americans supported the war in Afghanistan in 2001, and Afghanistan didn’t attack us. ”

          While support for America’s repulsive crimes in Afghanistan is no doubt yet another blight on this severely compromised nation, consensus for the war never hit anything close to 94 percent, not even in the immediate aftermath of 9/11 so that’s just a lie. (Present support for our adventures there are at an all time low.)

          Nor did the qassam attacks kill 3000 Israelis. They DID badly damage ONE home, from what I gather.

        • >>I imagine if Canadians were lobbing rockets over the border at people in NY for years on end, 94% of the American people would support a military response.

          The correct anology is: Imagine if the US had invaded Canada, occupied the Eastern Townships, and Canada, in response, started to lob rockets at the occupying forces entrenched there, south of Montreal.

          And yes, we would dojust that. And yes, we would sabotage US installations. And yes, we would bomb planes, trains and automobiles. And we would all be perfectly in our rights to do so. -N49.

          Interesting analogy. Funny how there’s no mention of America’s:
          - “necessary” (or “required” evil) cleansing of Canadians;
          - ON-GOING campaign of aggression, oppression, theft, colonization, destruction and murder; and
          - unwillingness to enter into sincere negotiations for a just and mutually-beneficial peace.

          There’s only poor victim Americans, wondering for the life of them why those horrible, violent Canadians hate America’s freedoms.

        • Mooser says:

          Oy, Hophmi, when I think about how much we suck I could just plotz.

          In January 2002, American support for the Afghanistan War was 87%, with less than 10% disapproving. Even more telling, 73% of Americans approved attacking any country where it was thought that terrorists were hiding.

  19. nmi says:

    Not even Roth could say it in public. He had to disguise this truth in a “novel.”

    Roth may have overstated the case, but I do think it’s important for non-Israeli Jews to work actively to set the record straight. The important contributions to Jewish culture in terms of literature, mathematics, physics, music and poetry come from Jews of the diaspora. Israel’s contribution—apart from murder and destruction—is nil.

    • kalithea says:

      Can’t we just say that all Zionists are dumb and there are some Jews that understand what it means to be responsible, compassionate human beings?

    • Chu says:

      Elliot, in another post, suggested calling the diaspora ‘the world’s Jews’.
      This way it doesn’t sound like the center of Jewish life emanates from Israel.

    • hophmi says:

      “The important contributions to Jewish culture in terms of literature, mathematics, physics, music and poetry come from Jews of the diaspora. Israel’s contribution—apart from murder and destruction—is nil.”

      When a Jew (or anyone else) accomplishes something in the arts and sciences, it is a contribution to mankind, not a contribution to “Jewish culture” or that person’s religion.

      And of course, what you wrote is simply the opposite of the truth. Israel has plenty of great novelists, from AB Yehoshua to David Grossman, an entire plethora of technological accomplishments (the latest one I’ve heard about it the creation of a machine to enable quadreplegics to walk), plenty of famous musicians (Itzhak Perlman, Gil Shaham, Idan Barnatan to name a couple of examples), and you know, nine nobel winners, five of which have come since 2002. Of those five, three are for chemistry and other two are for economics.

      • nmi says:

        “When a Jew (or anyone else) accomplishes something in the arts and sciences, it is a contribution to mankind, not a contribution to “Jewish culture” or that person’s religion.”

        Well said–I couldn’t agree more! So why is Israel constantly trying to hype Jewish achievements (by all the great Jews of the Diaspora) as a sleazy camouflage for its ongoing abominations?

        “…plenty of great novelists, from AB Yehoshua to David Grossman…”

        Stop it, I beg you!
        My sides are killing me!

        (Perlman of course, left your abominable country many years ago. I’m not sure the exact reason. Perhaps, like Ilan Pappe, he was forced out by the threats of murder leveled at him by your “refined” compatriots.)

        • hophmi says:

          “Well said–I couldn’t agree more! So why is Israel constantly trying to hype Jewish achievements (by all the great Jews of the Diaspora) as a sleazy camouflage for its ongoing abominations? ”

          I’m not aware of any great campaign by Israel to hype the accomplishments of diaspora Jews. It is true that some Jews in general take pride in the accomplishments of Jews in general. Gee, I don’t know why that might be. Because minority groups tend to take pride in the accomplishments of members of their groups? Last I checked, other minority groups pretty much do the same thing.

          ““…plenty of great novelists, from AB Yehoshua to David Grossman…”

          Stop it, I beg you!
          My sides are killing me! ”

          It’s likely your heart blocking the pumping of blood to your brain. You should get that checked out.

          “(Perlman of course, left your abominable country many years ago. I’m not sure the exact reason. Perhaps, like Ilan Pappe, he was forced out by the threats of murder leveled at him by your “refined” compatriots.)”

          Uh-huh. Perlman left because he got an invitation to appear on Ed Sullivan and a full scholarship to Julliard. Since then, he’s gone back countless times and played in numerous concerts to celebrate the milestones of the state. I mean, let me make sure I have this straight: are you really going to persist with your ignorant comments, or are you just trying to annoying? I need to know whether you simply need education, or whether you’re just a jerk.

        • nmi says:

          “Perlman left because he got an invitation to appear on Ed Sullivan and a full scholarship to Julliard. ”

          In other words, your septic tank disguised as a state was unable to provide meaningful opportunity to the young Itzhak Perlman, unless his ambition was to beat elderly Arabs with a rifle butt or shower children with white phosphorus. To become a great musician, he had to come to the states and attend Juilliard.

          case closed.

          nmi….

          I am sure that you see can right through “hophmi’s” hasbara methods. He is using/following the “hasbara booklet principles” very closely. His theme is that Israel/zionism/Jews rock & the rest…suck…(see example below). And of course, repeat, repeat…over and over….and on and on…til…infinity!!!

          And desperately hoping to win the audience over to his hasbara’s deceptive methods.

          For these hasbara trolls…its all about PR & damage control for their beloved Apartheid Israel.

          ~~~~~~~~~
          Hasbara principles:
          “You begin by saying how great Israel is. Israel want peace; Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East; the desert blooms; kibutz; Israelis invented antibiotics, the wheel, the E minor scale; thanks to the occupation Palestinians no longer live in caves; Israel liberates Arab women; Israel has the most moral army in the world, etc.”
      • nmi says:
        “…an entire plethora of technological accomplishments (the latest one I’ve heard about it the creation of a machine to enable quadreplegics to walk).”
        They’d do better inventing a machine to enable Israelis to think. Or to occasionally tell the truth. Or to feel empathy with non-Jewish members of their race.
  20. MRW says:
    I love the constant oscillation (in Israeli hasbara) between the ‘greatest military in the Middle East’ (or is it the world yet?) and the sympathy ploy of unarmed activists pitching these hardened, seasoned soldiers off a boat, or getting the better of them with sticks.
    This should be an advertisement for Israel to get its military act together, or fire some heads. We give $3 billion a year to these guys specifically for security and this is the best they can do?
    But then Colonel Lang, who worked as US Military Middle East liaison for years, was not kind about Israeli military training and preparedness; he likened it to a badly managed police force.
  21. annie says:
    here’s my take on this utterly failed flop of hasbara. was the intended target audience israel or the outside? whoever it was one can reasonably assume the goi doesn’t think enough of us consider israel as a traumatized victimized attractive determined innocent. casting israel as a young sexy pretty victimized woman is one (delusional) thing, but blatantly telegraphing (knives etc) how this young victim responds to the rorschach test assumes we are all unformed clay completely devoid of opinions or memories of our own.
    israel just doesn’t seem to grasp it’s going to take more than some mind control of the masses to fix this mess. people are just not that stupid. if this is their idea of ‘defense’ they’ve got a lot to learn. it’s not 1950 anymore, lots of people are awake.
    • nmi says:
      I think the name of the game is to remind their devoted base how to think about issues and keep them from straying from the herd. It’s a stop-loss program for zealots. The Israelis have mostly given up on winning any NEW converts. Basically, no one supports Israel any longer unless they are demented.
  22. LOL, not only is Israel a transparent and serial liar about every aspect of its political ideology and its sadistic treatment of Palestinians, but it is pathetic, amateurish and grossly insulting in its creepy, psycho fantasies about itself and others. One feeds the other. Who would care about their delusional narcissism and incessant victimhood, apart from its lethal consequences for millions of people who have the temerity to exist. Perhaps they are subconsciously trying to delegitimise themselves, since that is what they are effectively doing.
  23. eljay says:
    Just watched the video. Wow, what a garbage piece of victimhood propaganda. I noticed that the girl forgot:
    - to stress the fact that the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians was “necessary” and a “required” evil;
    - to point out that Israel is engaged in an ON-GOING campaign of aggression, oppression, theft, colonization, destruction and murder; and
    - to indicate that Israel has no desire to enter into sincere negotiations for a just and mutually-beneficial peace.
