Kristol’s tunnel vision: Is Perry good for the Jews?

Bill Kristol at the Weekly Standard, begins a piece in this way:

Andrew Ferguson inexplicably neglected, in his fascinating and entertaining piece on Rick Perry in the current issue, to raise the question that’s surely on so many readers’ minds: But is he good for the Jews?

Remember that Kristol, who was once Dan Quayle’s chief of staff, wrote in 2003 at the beginning of the Iraq war:

Guided by a narrow realpolitick that defined America’s vital interests in terms of oil wells, strategic chokepoints and regional stability, the first Bush administration halted its war against Saddam after expelling his armies from Kuwait…

but Iraq can now provide a model for success. Having broken with the record of his predecessors, President George W. Bush brings to the problem of Iraq a worldview that reflects wheat he describes as “the union of our values and our national interests.” ….

The wisdom of regime change, the merits of promoting democracy, the desirability of American power and influence–these issues extend well beyond Iraq.

Kristol inexplicably neglected to raise the question that is on my mind, Did he support that disastrous war because he thought it was good for Israel?
