Consider that here in the UK, Halloween is followed by Guy Fawkes Night on Nov 5, celebrating the defeat of the Gunpowder Plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament! Featuring the home grown baddy du jour, a Roman Catholic, burnt in effigy annually atop thousands of bonfires along with fireworks, across the land. The fact that GF was RC completely escapes most kids, it’s an excuse for fun. It celebrates the fact that our government was not overthrown, and that our ‘freedoms’ were not lost (ltd as they were at that stage of democratic evolution).
