Elliott Abrams seems to think that Obama is anti-Semitic (and so does Newt Gingrich)

In his book Faith or Fear (1997) Elliott Abrams expresses considerable suspicion of black Americans’ attitudes toward Jews. “Anti-Semitism appears to be growing among American blacks… [Louis Farrakhan's] message has received a sympathetic hearing from all too many black audiences–not least on college campuses, where tomorrow’s black elites are being educated,” and this concern seems to motivate his post on the Sarkozy/Obama snub, at the Council of Foreign Relations, which snidely paints Europe and the U.S. as anti-Semitic. The undercurrent of Abrams’s remarks is that there is nothing that Netanyahu can do to affect his relationship with these western leaders, they hate the “Jewish State.” And, implicitly, they refuse to deal with a Jew on equal terms.

If this were only a matter of personal relations between Obama and Netanyahu, it could be left at that. But it is far more consequential, for by that comment—and especially as it was made in private and can be interpreted as his actual view—President Obama has joined the chorus of assaults on the Jewish State. We only have one president at a time and they only have one prime minister. To treat the prime minister of Israel in this way is disgraceful.

In the very week that he moves on outposts—something Sharon and Olmert completely failed to do—he is called names by the French and the insults are apparently accepted and approved by the Americans. The advice to Bibi would have to be “forget it. Forget the possibility that Obama will ever treat you fairly. Forget the idea that he will give you a fair shake or pay attention to what you are actually doing.”

Oh, update, thanks to Mark Wauck: Newt Gingrich all but accuses Sarkozy of anti-Semitism. And implies as much about Obama and the east coast “elites.”

And yet their nasty comments are aimed at Netanyahu? I mean, it tells you just what’s wrong with the elites in Europe, and frankly, the elites in the United States.

Now Mr. Obama made the anti-Semitic list.
    Along with “the French”.

The French thing is to start resurrecting The Dreyfus Affair, and classify all of Israel as Dreyfus. You watch. It’s gonna happen. More tedious subpar thinking.

        More tedious subpar thinking.

That’s what struck me most about the Abrams piece. His inferences from Obama’s off-record remark are not “parochial”; they’re wacko paranoid ramblings without a logical foot to stand on. He got all that from a “I have to deal with him every day”? And he can’t think of any possible explanation for the opinions of the two leaders other than the fact that Netanyahu represents the “Jewish state” (and thus in some twisted way plays the “eternal Jew” to their “eternal anti-Semite”)?

What is this man smoking and why isn’t he in a padded cell?

And don’t get me started on the idiots who can’t decide whether Sarko’s frustration with Netanyahu is more Dreyfus or more Eurabia.

Can anyone name a country other than Israel of which it could be said without laughing that the POTUS must talk to its leader every day? Says something about the power of AIPAC that this is immediately believable, as is the implicit request for sympathy. I sure wish it could be painted as such a slur on AIPAC that POTUS could escape; but he cannot or will not. Why does this man want to be president for 4-more-years if he anticipates spending all that time with AIPAC and Bibi?

And now…. Rick Perry is going to answer the question: Who is “the French”?
“Um, ee, oo,la, la, aah, oops, I dunno no.
      Somebody help me?”.
      ( a whisper) Sa…, Sa….” .
” Oh, I know, Salamander, I mean.. Chameleon”.

These jerks are going to create it in people who never even thought it was possible to think that way.

This is what I have been trying to point out. It’s called Crying Wolf.

Didn’t anyone ever read them these fairy tales?

It’s called self-fulling prophecy and has been the subject of countless psychological papers.

They will have no one to blame but themselves. You can’t keep calling someone a cheat and a meanie without consequence.

      I agree.
It astounds me they can’t see what they are doing…the disgust they are creating in a significant number of people.
Maybe they want to create it….but to what purpose?
What do they have to gain by recreating resentment of Jews?
I have comne to the conclusion the zionist know they need what is called anti semitism to continue the holocaust and Israel exceptionalism.
Without it their special privilages and immunity falls away.
I can’t see any other reason for their unending witchhunts.
Without anti semitism they have no power.

It wakes up the base. If you’re Jewish and don’t follow politics and you hear that a candidate is anti-semitic, you’ll think twice about pulling the lever, or touching that option on the touchscreen.

It’s classic neocon trash, repeat it whether it’s true or not as long as you sway a few votes. Evil stuff from an evil guy.

The one person who can faithfully forget that Elliott Abrams was a convicted felon is his wife which may explain why he relies on her for his ideas.

Yeah, what about his “lovely” wife ,with a charm of a loaded pistol?
Was she ordered to sit quietly under a broom, while her hubby takes care of a big business?

Once again, its the people themselves, screaming about anti-semitism, who get in the way of their own argument. Most people who follow politics/political ideologies and discourse think Elliot Abrams is an asshole. Even more people think this about Gingrich, Kristol and the rest of the neo-cons.

So, to a lot of people “anti-semitism” is now becoming a partisan issue, like “voter fraud.” It has also become, like “voter fraud,” a dog whistle issue. “voter fraud” means ” lets not have non whites vote” – “anti-semitism” has come to mean, “let Israel do whatever it wants – the goy can F themselves/ I need campaign or foundation donations.”

Time for Obama to cut his losses and just quote James Baker.

Because there is no way to refute or deny this antisemitism charge. Just as there’s no way to refute or deny the charge of racism.

“No, I’m not.” “Some of my best friends …” Nope, the more you deny it the more the accusers consider this evidence of your guilt. And no matter how far backwards Obama bends, it will never be enough for them. Bombing Iran wouldn’t be enough. As far as this bunch is concerned, Obama is an Israel hater and an antisemite and always will be. So he might as well get the satisfaction.

Now honestly, this Abrams fellow is pathetic. Basically if you’re not a likudnik, you’re antisemitic.

All dancing around the fact that, of course, Netanjahu is demonstrably a liar.
