Reacting quickly to yesterday’s Republican Jewish Coalition forum for Republican presidential candidates, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, held a conference call with reporters late yesterday afternoon that was aimed at Mitt Romney. Reading from a script and leading off with a rhapsody about her own Jewish identity, Wasserman Schultz said that President Obama has taken “concrete actions” to counter Iran, including building an international coalition with Russia and China. But:
Mitt Romney likes to talk tough on Iran. But that’s all it is, talk, and flipflops. The reality is that Mitt Romney through his charitable trust has invested in companies which have done business in Iran despite having pledged to divest from this exact kind of interests.
I see that this is Wasserman Schultz’s talking point. She began saying this last week. From an Associated Press report on Romney’s blind trusts:
Among the investments listed as sold on the 2011 disclosure are Honeywell, which had aided Iranian gas production through a British subsidiary, and Schlumberger, an oil services company that operated both in Iran and Sudan. Both stocks were managed through a private Goldman Sachs portfolio, the disclosure said. But IRS records show that between 2007 and 2009, Romney’s family charity, the Tyler Charitable Trust, continued to buy and sell other investments in companies that dealt with Iranian businesses,
So now the Democratic Party wants to be to the right of Mitt Romney on Iran?

Diplomats are preparing to help Britons abroad through a banking collapse and even riots arising from the debt crisis.

Diplomats have also been told to prepare to help tens of thousands of British citizens in eurozone countries with the consequences of a financial collapse that would leave them unable to access bank accounts or even withdraw cash….”

Clear that Wasserman Schultz going to attempt to take the Dems further to the wrong on the I/P issue and Iran during this campaign. How far right (wrong)can she take the Dems on these issues? Just watch
