You were here, you were here, and you were here
Don’t look back

I never meant to be the needle that broke your back
You were here, you were here, and you were here
Don’t look back

He war, he war

And if you won’t let me run with it
We’re on to your same old trick
Get up and run away with it

I’m not that hot new chick
And if you won’t let me run with it
We’re on to your same old trick
Get up and run away with it

Hey hey hey
He war, he war
He will kill for you

He will kill for you
Hey hey hey
He war, he war
He will kill for you
Hey hey hey
From who you can

Washington Post

JERUSALEM — American musician Cat Power has canceled her show in Israel, joining a list of artists shunning the country over its conflict with the Palestinians.

Charlyn Marie Marshall, better known by her stage name Cat Power, was to perform in Tel Aviv on Sunday.

But she tweeted on Friday that due to “much confusion” she felt she could not play for her Israeli fans and that she felt “sick in her spirit.”

We’re a growing movement. We’re the future, apartheid isn’t.

Thanks Cat, more power to you.

It’s somewhat ironic that her stage name, Cat Power, comes from the Caterpillar company, whose bull dozers are used to demolish Palestinian homes. May they be next to boycott Israel.

Yeah, wouldn’t want them to have to choose between which entertainment to watch if they were both on at the same time.

I saw this smart-mouth comment somewhere on the interweb:

Like a 50-something virgin, jewish for the very first time…

  3. Just wanted to say that I am a recent fan of Cat Powers’. (Although I don’t know if listening to a handful of songs, plus loving two of her covers: “Sea of Love” and “Stuck inside of mobile with the memphis blues again.” qualifies me as a fan.) I would have been happier if she had played in Israel, but I respect the fact that she was forced not to play by the BDS movement.

Maybe the WaPo omitted something. But in general. I think it’s weak if a boycotter just says “its a contested issue” or “I’m not sure”. They should name the gorilla in the room, which is Israeli warmongering, occupation and racist discrimination. Those are clear cut issues. No need for weaseling.
