NJ Star-Ledger runs ‘dual loyalty’ charge against Rep. Rothman supporters

The battle between sitting Democratic congressmen Steve Rothman and Bill Pascrell for the redrawn 9th District in New Jersey has become a battle royal for the Israel lobby. A Passaic, N.J. newspaper reported last week that leaders of Orthodox Jewish synagogues in the city "are urging their congregants to switch parties from Republican to Democrat so they can vote for Rep. Steve Rothman in the June 5 primary" -- because Rothman is stronger on Israel.

The letter led Aref Assaf, president of American Arab Forum, to write in the New Jersey Star-Ledger's site:

As total and blind support for Israel becomes the only reason for choosing Rothman, voters who do not view the elections in this prism will need to take notice. Loyalty to a foreign flag is not loyalty to America's.

Adam Kredo reported the charge first, and he jumps in:

New Jersey Democrat Bill Pascrell has no intention of distancing himself from a prominent Arab-American supporter who accused the state’s Jewish community—as well as his Democratic primary challenger, Rep. Steve Rothman—of being more loyal to Israel than America.

It is the essence of Zionism that its Jewish adherents’ first loyalty has to be to Israel. The dual loyalty applies to all Jewish Zionists in the world who have yet to make their required Aliyah to Israel.

Nice to hear it out and public. Watch this space.

  3. Krauss says:

It’s pretty tacky for the rabbis to urge all their congregants who are Republicans to switch party purely based on Israel.

    • Tacky? How about disgusting, despicable, abhorrent? That’s how I see it, and I’m sure that’s how many of his New Jersey non-Jewish constituents see it also. But what do they matter in Zionist country?

Rothman (Israel-Firster) will happily be bi-partisan when it comes to Israel. E.g. Rothman deciding to take out a Democrat out of office rather than a Republican. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (DNC! ex DCCC) is the same. Screw what Obama and the US military says — basically it appears their (and others) game is to stay in Congress to protect Israel not the United States — They don’t seem care who they ally with — namely nut-case Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.)!

This Israel-focused caucus joining the yanks of the Congressional Israel Allies Caucus, and obviously the all star Jewish Caucus.

The bastardization of the Democratic Party continues. I also noticed that DNC chairperson Debbie Wasserman Schultz has elevated Antonio Villaraigosa position in the party! The same guy AIPAC elevated back in 2009 when he ‘kicked off’ AIPAC annual policy conference.

Elizabeth Warren is the tip of the iceberg.

I’m reading a lot of push back elsewhere on these dual loyalty and Israel-Firster claims. Seems that it is being spun around to smear the critic and invoke sympathy by mentioning dual-loyalty being an offensive and centuries-old canard which heavily influenced perceptions in Germany giving rise to you-know-what.

It’s important to keep this separate and applied to Israel, a foreign nation. It is also important to show that it is Christian fundies being accused as well. These folks will resort to anything they have in their manipulative bag of tricks. They go for the emotions and try to smear you as a Nazi in the process. Don’t let them!

Do let them try. The show down at the O.K. corral is long over due.

  6. For some dual loyalty is being TOO generous…. When they choose to harm American interests to support Israel (where they don’t even effing live), it is ONE loyalty.

And for those who spy or illegally tinker with electoral politics, it is outright treason.

  7. American says:

LOL…If the shoe fits beat him on his head with it.

  8. … leaders of Orthodox Jewish synagogues in the city “are urging their congregants to switch parties from Republican to Democrat so they can vote for Rep. Steve Rothman ….

Under U.S. law, religious organizations are not permitted to advocate in elections for specific candidates or parties and retain their tax-exempt status. Someone should report these Orthodox synagogues to the IRS so their tax-exempt status can be removed. We, the taxpayers, need their money.

  9. piotr says:

Caroline Glick, a former American who now writes for Jerusalem Post is very much against dual loyalty. Diasporah Jews should be loyal ONLY to Israel.

  10. “leaders of Orthodox Jewish synagogues in the city “are urging their congregants to switch parties from Republican to Democrat so they can vote for Rep. Steve Rothman in the June 5 primary” — because Rothman is stronger on Israel.”

I think that God is mighty mad at those American “leaders”, when they turn houses of prayer into propaganda outlets for a foreign country. Jews of America, fix your community!
