First ‘J Street,’ now Princeton — man who ordered Gaza onslaught tours U.S.

Ehud Olmert was the Israeli prime minister who ordered the Gaza slaughter of three years ago. The Goldstone Report on the Gaza conflict recommended universal jurisdiction for the investigation of war crimes that took place during those 21 days of hell.

Olmert will be giving the keynote speech at J Street’s conference, titled “Making History,” next week. And yesterday Princeton announced a gig with the former P.M. He’ll be speaking at the Woodrow Wilson School there a week from today. Attendance is free, but it requires advance registration.

[excerpt] JERUSALEM (JTA) — The indictment of former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and 17 other Israelis on charges related to one of the largest real estate scandals in Israeli history is the latest shoe to drop in a country where political corruption has come to be seen as an epidemic.
The indictment issued Jan. 4 alleges that Olmert and several other Israeli officials accepted millions of dollars in bribes to promote a series of real estate projects, most prominently Jerusalem’s controversial Holyland development.
“There are so many ironies in the case,” said Stuart Schoffman, a fellow at Jerusalem’s Shalom Hartman Institute. “Israel is supposed to be the holy land. This project is called the Holyland, and yet it’s the most unholy business you can imagine. . .

Well, not for nothin’ but the practical application of Olmerts ideology really isnt that far removed from “wilsonian idealism” — both demand large amounts of death and destruction for “others”, along with a near totalitarian domestic regime.

There’s no need to exercise universal jurisdiction. The US extradited Noriega to France. Nothing prevents the US from arresting former heads of state or extraditing them to stand trial elsewhere.
