The controversy over the Palestinian maps ads is a story with legs. And ad-buyer Henry Clifford’s wish may come true: Americans will learn about the dispossession of Palestinians, history suppressed for decades in this country. NY Daily News report from Celeste Katz:
Assemblymember Robert Castelli [of Westchester County] wrote a letter today to the MTA Metro-North railroad president urging for the removal of a billboard about Israel and Palestine, saying members of the Jewish community were offended by the anti-Israel message and that the advertisement was “more inflammatory than promoting peace.”…
Castelli said he was contacted by “a multitude” of Jewish organizations in his district that were offended by the billboard. Castelli said he consulted those complaints, as well as a letter from The Anti-Defamation League, before deciding to draft the letter to Metro-North President Howard Permut. The Anti-Defamation League cited COPIP as an anti-Israel group. It said the billboards failed to reflect key facts and that the issue is “extremely complex and cannot be summarized in a series of four maps.”
Henry Clifford, the chairman of COPIP, said there isn’t room on the billboards for the entirety of the issue, but that everything on the advertisement is an “accurate, historical, geographical portrayal.”

Is there a Kickstart funding project in the making?
Could the brave Mr. Clifford be backed up with enough money to replicate his success elsewhere. Like Washington?
No need to have a marketing group analyze the effectiveness of this ad campaign. I think we know the answer. Thank you Henry Clifford.
It is like garlic to the Ziobot vampires.
Map Facts “like garlic to the Ziobot vampires”
“Offended” is not the right word.
“Outraged” that the truth is laid bare for all to see.
The naked truth is an emormous embarrassment.
I’m waiting for Dov Hikind to “announce his presence with authority”
Now that I have seen Defamation, I can’t take Dov Hikind seriously. At all.
Breaking news:
ADL complains about free T-shirt with slogan: “Israel Is Home of All Jews & Has Right 2 Self-Govern.” It said the T-shirts failed to reflect key facts and that the issue is “extremely complex and cannot be summarized on a T-shirt, even if both sides of it were used. An ADL spokesman further explained, ‘Those T-shirts are an offense to all Palestinians and to all the humanitarians in the world–besides, Nuremberg law & Geneva progeny were purchased at the price of two world wars and brought an end to the notion that a sovereign state could do whatever it wants at the expense of other states or groups.”
Breaking news:
Offensive shit has hit the fan.
Seek cover.
Or:
Breaking wind:
A shotgun of skin
A bullet wind
Aiming for the heel
Finally hits the nose.
Noses are very sensitive and do not want to know about all the shit the rest of the body does.
Spray Glade air freshener on the maps….
“An ADL spokesman further explained…”
…that the ADL is holding open-call auditions for tight-rope-artists. The must have the ability to perfrom rhetorical and ethical acrobatic feats on a piece of kite-string stretched 150 feet above the ground, with no net.
“Oh, yes, there is one problem. It’s a great trick, but I can only do it once!”
The T-shirt should have the maps with the title: Israel’s Piece Process
good one
Speaking of T-shirts let’s look at this and remind ourselves that the IOF is the most moral army in the world.

1 picture (of an accurate historical series of maps) is worth 1000 zio-propaganda campaigns
Oh bring it on– a First Amendment fight about whether it’s okay to criticize Israel!
Let it go the Supreme Court.
Don’t say that. When it comes to criticism of Israel, the US constitution is bound to lose. It won’t be worth the paper they wrap a falafel in.
Didn’t you hear? In 1948 they inserted a clause into the First Amendment. It reads, Though shalt not criticize Israel.
“Assemblymember Robert Castelli [of Westchester County] wrote a letter today to the MTA Metro-North railroad president urging for the removal of a billboard about Israel and Palestine, saying members of the Jewish community were offended by the anti-Israel message ”
Message to Castelli….read the handwriting increasingly apparent on the wall….fewer and fewer people care if the Jewish community is offended. Offended by the truth makes it ‘their problem’…. not ours.
The only members of the Jewish Community who object are those who support Israel’s ethnic cleansing and occupation of the Palestinians. These of course are the Jews who worship the state of Israel rather than God, better known as Zionists.
When one finds the truth intolerable, it really is time to reflect.
Zionist Dictionary
“key facts” Translation:
Historical revisionism, the bread and butter of Zionist propaganda.
“extremely complex” Translation:
There are a lot of embarrassing and incriminating truths that are best painted with the broad brush of “complex”. For example, if we cited religious text as the land deed which gives us the right to steal someone else’s land, the whole charade will be exposed.
Also, if we cited the Holocaust as justification for stealing someone else’s land, again, that excuse will be exposed for the farce that it is. Why? (1) Two wrongs don’t make a right. (2) The Holocaust took place in Europe, not in the Middle East.
[End Translation]
I guess that is why NY Times articles about Israel/Palestine do not include maps that show where Israel’s borders end and its occupation begins. The Times, like another member of the Israel Lobby, the ADL, doesn’t want to confuse readers with facts on the ground.
Hmm… I wonder if many other Mondoweiss commenters wonder why their comments are “awaiting moderation” while others written later get posted earlier. For example, I posted my previous comment at at 12:59, which is still awaiting moderation, Yet I see another comment at 1:04 which is not. Please be clear. Does Mondoweiss have degrees of acceptance?
I have a complaint about moderation. I posted 2 comments on the Visualising Palestine thread:
link to mondoweiss.net
The first was very sarcastic but not in violation of the moderation policy, and it wasn’t passed.
I posted a second short comment questioning why and that wasn’t passed either.
Unless Mondoweiss applies a sensible moderation policy they can’t expect the support of the community. I’ve donated the last few campaigns and I can’t see why I should put up with arbitrary comments not being passed.
In short, I won’t.
So, farewell to all – I’ll direct my energy and donations elsewhere.
I, for one, appreciate your posts. Those that get through (and I suspect that is most of them) are really worthwhile.
Please don’t leave just because the mods bungle it now and again.
I find that when I post before midday, the posts don’t get through till evening. I suspect that this is because the time difference between here and the US means that the mods are not on duty. When they come back, they have a backlog of Australian stuff to sort through. They get busy throwing out the nasty stuff from me, and accidently throw out one or two of yours as well.
An hour later and still awaiting moderation, yet another comment almost an hour earlier gets posted. Can you be clear and frank about your moderation? Because many must find this a bit offensive. What is so offensive about “Thank you Henry Clifford”?
Unfricken believable. I must be on some kind of Mondoweiss blacklist.
It happens to us all, mudder.
You’re not being picked on at all.
No, Bumblebye. It didn’t happen to you. You went to the front of the line. But I don’t blame you. In fact, I like your comment.
oh, mudder!
T’other day, I had to add a bit to a comment that I’d forgot, and the edit had timed out. So my reply inexplicably came thru’ moderation hours before the original comment I’d made. No rhyme nor reason, just how it came out. It happens to my comments frequently. On this thread, mine came thru mod ages before two comments posted before it. No rhyme or reason. Don’t despair – it’s the weekend, maybe not many mods about! And thanks for the compliment!
Bumbleye–it may have to do with your having given 1600 comments to MW whereas I have given only 300, but I wish MW would be more frank.
(deletes long sarcastic and badly written comment about the Moderation Suite at Mondoweiss Tower No.1, its facilities and staff)
I’m sure the comments are moderated as fast and as well as they can be.
It can take a while, and if you can see a way around it, I’m sure they’d be glad to know about it at Mondoweiss Plaza.
At least you don’t have twice as many comments published under your name than you actually write. That happens to me all the time.
Happens to me too, and I wonder all the time what the darn rules are.
And why did John Turnbull, who commented a minute before me, have to wait an hour and a half before his opinion was publicly posted, while others went to the front of the line? What’s going on at Mondoweiss? Do you flag some commenters as immediately postable while the rest of of us await moderation? Or are there degrees of moderation???
‘Do you flag some commenters as immediately postable while the rest of of us await moderation?’
On many blogs this is exactly what happens. Being a moderator you get ‘to know’ people, so while reading through earlier replies you indeed let later replies through. It’s imperfect, I know. But defenitely not meant to be dishonest.
Interesting that this time they got an Italian-American politician to do their dirty work.
“Interesting that this time they got an Italian-American politician to do their dirty work.”
Finally, somebody tells us who the Moderator is!
Assemblymember Robert Castelli: ” … that the issue is “extremely complex and cannot be summarized in a series of four maps.”
Well Robert, Adam has just proven it can even be summarized in ONE map: link to mondoweiss.net
Henry Clifford said (according to the original article):
“He wanted to target Westchester because he was looking for “high IQ readers.””
- Assemblymember Robert Castelli [of Westchester County] got to be one of them.
Here’s an idea to allow people to make a statement that is nearly impossible to attack as Anti-Semitic. Organize a way to place newspaper ads and billboards with a simple message:
Dump Likud/Beiteinu
Save Israel
Save the Middle East
Save America

David Doppler,
It helps to know history.
It was under the so-called leftist LABOR government that settlements in the occupied West Bank were launched after the 1967 war.
It was under the so-called centrist Kadima party of Ehud Olmert and Tzipi Livni, that Israel assaulted Gaza and murdered 329 children.
So whether you “dump” Likud or not, it won’t make a scintilla of a difference.
It’s only “extremely complex” when it comes to the stuff Israeli apologists down’t want peopel to hear. Does anyone ever hear that the firing of rockets is “extremely complex”
For the relatively short time I’ve been involved in the effort for Palestinian justice, I’ve thought the series of four chronological maps is the most powerful imagery available. In a glance it tells the story.
Far from complexity, the word to think about is perversity. All should look at the maps and wonder about the perversity of Israel claiming to be a victim that is always on the verge of being “driven into the sea”.
So many positive things are happening as the truth comes out. What could send me into a deep depression, however, would be the election of Romney, the very model of a one-percenter and a guy that would bring any and all Israel fanatics accidentally left behind by Obama back into the administration.
Far from complexity, the word to think about is perversity. All should look at the maps and wonder about the perversity of Israel claiming to be a victim that is always on the verge of being “driven into the sea”.
Even more perverse is the claim by the likes of Jonathan Tobin, is that the Palestinians are:
1) occupiers and
2) the ones refsing to accept Jewish life in Palestine.
RE: “NY assembly member urges censorship of maps ad, citing offense to ‘a multitude’ of Jewish orgs” ~ Weiss
MY COMMENT: This is part of the reason I fear that Revisionist Zionism and Likudnik Israel (specifically by virtue of their inordinate sway over the U.S.) might very well be an “existential threat” to the values of ‘The Enlightenment’ ! ! !

P.S. ALSO RE: “NY assembly member urges censorship of maps ad, citing offense to ‘a multitude’ of Jewish orgs”
FROM HANNAH ARENDT:
And why is the American “Jewish Community” (Mooser knows what this is) offended by criticism of a foreign state?
“(Mooser knows what this is)”
Yes, I do, but still, I wouldn’t mind some company! It’s not like I’m fussy, or trying to keep anybody out.
The maps show a Zionist success story! – why is the Jewish community offended?
————————————————————-
There is no doubt that the expansion of the settlements are seen as a result of the Zionist pioneering toughness and perseverance – the Holy Land is redeemed. That’s what the maps show. So why complain about it? Be proud of it and not hypocratical.
Offensive comment? Does not help peace?
Does this help peace-
. Brad Sherman (D-CA), said, “Critics [of the sanctions] argued that these measures will hurt the Iranian people. Quite frankly, we need to do just that.” Or take Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-NY): “The goal … is to inflict crippling, unendurable economic pain over there. Iran’s banking sector — especially its central bank — needs to become the financial equivalent of Chernobyl: radioactive, dangerous and most of all, empty.”
The vile pathetic warmongering mood on the face of the most offensive creatures did not draw a rebuke from ADL.
“censorship of maps ads”.
Correct, that comes under the Bill of Rights and Freedom of Speech!!
