Continuing to push daylight between presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s position on Israel and President Obama’s, the Republican National Committee played a one-minute and 35-second campaign ad that, accompanied by dramatic music, re-states that Jerusalem is “the capital of Israel.”
The video, “Israel: Cherished Memories” was also posted by “gopconvention2012,” the 2012 Republican National Convention’s official YouTube channel on August 29, 2012. A variation of the same advertisement also aired earlier this month as a commercial in battleground swing states, as well as in an email from the Romney campaign, soliciting donations.

Gag me with a spoon
I had the same thought, just in German. Kotz!
What’s the bet Adelson put him up to this. People like him and Newt Gingrich have absolutely no morals or ethics. Palestine is and never was their land to give away.
Newt Gingrich
Now this rings a bell (without fact checking my memory). When Newt became Speaker of the House he announced that the Republican Congress would push for recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capitol. If I recall correctly Kissinger quickly contacted Newt and told him it violated US policy and promises that he had made to other nations. Newt dropped the proposal.
Wonder what Kissinger thinks of this today?
We speak the same language of freedom and justice and the right of every person to live in peace. (offer not available in all areas and some exceptions may apply.)”*
*Freedom of Palestinians to enjoy quiet possession of their homes, their land, and the spring water, wells or cisterns located there are extremely limited. See the IDF regional commander for full details.
Israel respects the rights of peoples of all religions
“U.S. citizen visitors have been subjected to prolonged questioning and thorough searches by Israeli authorities upon entry or departure … U.S. citizens have been detained and/or arrested at the airport and at other border crossings on suspicion of security-related offenses. Members of religious groups have been monitored, arrested, and deported for suspicion of intent to proselytize in Israel. In some cases, Israeli authorities have denied U.S. citizens access to U.S. consular officers, lawyers, and family members during temporary detention.” — U.S. State Department, “Israel, the West Bank and Gaza Country Specific Information”, link to travel.state.gov
We both believe in democracy, in the right of every people to select their leaders [except Hamas, Hezbollah, et al], and choose their nations course [as part of a negotiated final settlement, some restrictions regarding East Jerusalem, the major settlement blocks, and water security apply]. We both believe in the rule of law, knowing that in its absence willful men may be inclined to oppress the weak.
The rule is: that unless conventional or humanitarian international laws are included in domestic enabling legislation, it’s not a rule of law – even if we have solemnly signed and ratified it.
We both believe our rights are universal [i.e. extra-territorial and exceptional]
It’s a deeply moving experience to be in Jerusalem, the capital of Israel
The authentic Israelites were so moved by the experience, and their dislike for the Jews, that they relocated their capital to Nablus/Mt. Gerizm in Samaria.
“Members of religious groups have been monitored, arrested, and deported for suspicion of intent to proselytize in Israel.”
Yes you are correct (as always). They are definitely monitored and harassed. I know an American Christian (spiritualist) lady who lived there for 9 years. She also had an Israeli messianic friend who Rabbi Goldstein kidnapped and held for 3 days because she believed in Jesus -the same Rabbi Goldstein that shot up that Mosque in Bethlehem. When he let her go they told her they would be watching her!
it really does appear as tho he’s running a campaign for the presidency of two nations doesn’t it? this is what US presidential elections have come down to. i second david samel, gag me with a spoon.
“it really does appear as tho he’s running a campaign for the presidency of two nations doesn’t it? ”
Annie, it’s only one nation. Just think of it as just another far-away state like Alaska or Hawaii or a Puerto Rico on the Med. It would be easier to accept what’s going on. What is there that’s so different from Obama when it comes to Israel or to the Palestinians?
Just think of it as just another far-away state like Alaska or Hawaii or a Puerto Rico on the Med.
impossible. when was the last time every candidate declared their love for hawaii? puerto rico? you must be kidding. the most attention alaska got in any election i am old enough to recall was palin saying she could see russia out her window. israel gets more attention than any of our states, including ny/california or texas. we’re all jilted lovers, it’s just israel israel israel. f that.
Yep. Not only do Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Virgin Islands get little or no mention, but major NATO, Asian, and Latin American allies are mostly ignored as well.
I’m waiting for Romney or Obama to run ads declaring their loyalty to our ally South Korea and the Korean community.

MY COMMENT: Not to mention that the head of Israel’s “extortion racket”*, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will be coming to the US next month in an effort to give the Romney/Ryan campaign a boost!

FURTHER REFLECTION: Am I being overly suspicious in suspecting that Netanyahu’s “speech” to the UN might be a collaborative effort between Netanyahu’s office and the Romney/Ryan campaign with plenty of nice, juicy soundbites suitable for attack ads to be funded by certain billionaire-funded 503(c)(3) “super PACs” and/or even more secretive 503(c)(4) “social welfare organizations”?
Would the Repub-Likuds stoop that low?
N0, I guess I’m just getting overly cynical in my all too rapidly advancing older age.

All that really needs to be said in response to the AIPAC puppet Romney:

Resolution 478 (1980)
of 20 August 1980
The Security Council,
Recalling its resolution 476 (1980),
Reaffirming again that the acquisition of territory by force is inadmissible,
Deeply concerned over the enactment of a “basic law” in the Israeli Knesset proclaiming a change in the character and status of the Holy City of Jerusalem, with its implications for peace and security,
Noting that Israel has not complied with resolution 476 (1980),
Reaffirming its determination to examine practical ways and means, in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Charter of the United Nations, to secure the full implementation of its resolution 476 (1980), in the event of non-compliance by Israel,
1. Censures in the strongest terms the enactment by Israel of the “basic law” on Jerusalem and the refusal to comply with relevant Security Council resolutions;
2. Affirms that the enactment of the “basic law” by Israel constitutes a violation of international law and does not affect the continued application of the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, of 12 August 1949, in the Palestinian and other Arab territories occupied since June 1967, including Jerusalem;
3. Determines that all legislative and administrative measures and actions taken by Israel, the occupying Power, which have altered or purport to alter the character and status of the Holy City of Jerusalem, and in particular the recent “basic law” on Jerusalem, are null and void and must be rescinded forthwith;
4. Affirms also that this action constitutes a serious obstruction to achieving a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the Middle East;
5. Decides not to recognize the “basic law” and such other actions by Israel that, as a result of this law, seek to alter the character and status of Jerusalem and calls upon:
(a) All Member States to accept this decision;
(b) Those States that have established diplomatic missions at Jerusalem to withdraw such missions from the Holy City;
6. Requests the Secretary-General to report to the Security Council on the implementation of the present resolution before 15 November 1980;
` 7. Decides to remain seized of this serious situation.
Adopted at the 2245th meeting by 14 votes to none, with 1 abstention (United States of America).
…
And also to counter another piece of common Zionist propaganda, David Morrison has already noted in a correspondence with the Zionist’s own embassy in the UK; the clear reality of international law the Zionist regime continues to violate: link to david-morrison.org.uk
“Does Israel accept the ruling of the International Court of Justice (Namibia 1971 ICJ 16, paragraph 113) that UN member states are obliged ‘to accept and carry out’ Chapter VI (as well as Chapter VII) Security Council resolutions in accordance with Article 25 of the UN Charter?”
Why should Israel accede to a hypocritical UN that is biased against it? Were there any UN resolutions against Jordan’s annexation from 1949 to 1967? Of course no.
The US has already passed an act that recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel; they are just too chicken to put it into practice because of fears of Arab hysteria that could translate into terrorism.
Oh the UN is sooooo biased against Israel, it’s not like it was the one that laid out the initial partition plan in 1947 or something.
it’s not like it was the one that laid out the initial partition plan in 1947 or something.
Clarification, the Jewish Agency for Israel said that both the UNSCOP majority and minority plans were unacceptable to the Jewish people. The representative of the Jewish Agency made its “acceptance” of the UNSCOP majority plan subject to further discussions of its territorial and constitutional reservations.
So an “Ad Hoc Committee” comprised of the entire General Assembly swung into action. I granted additional territorial cessions, including the Negev, and changes that shortened the transition period from two years to 6 months – while eliminating the requirement that the Jewish and Arab states adopt democratic constitutions designed to protect fundamental human rights prior to independence. We’ve all been paying for that mistake ever since.
Mayhem says:
“Why should Israel accede to a hypocritical UN that is biased against it? “>>>>>>>>
Why doesn’t the UN just void Res 181..and pouff! Israel would be officially illegtimate.
I would be all for the neos and zios who want the US to withdraw from the UN……then Israel and the US would be naked……193 countries against 2….. Isr and USA out in the cold…..no official standing in the universe with anyone. ……Bonnie and Clyde.
/ American says: Why doesn’t the UN just void 181. /
Void 181? UNGA 181 was a General Assembly Resolution that has no bearing on either the creation or existence of Israel. As with all GA Resolutions it has no force at all, and further it was essentially a recommendation to the Security Council who chose not to act on it.
As with all GA Resolutions it has no force at all
So you’re totally ignorant about the General Assembly’s role in establishing the Unified Command in Korea and the establishment of a Emergency force “to secure and supervise the cessation of hostilities in accordance with all the terms of the General Assembly resolution of 2 November 1956 (A/3256). It included supervising the withdrawal of foreign armed forces from Egypt. The judgment in the “Certain Expenses” case dealt with the costs and mandatory assessments prescribed by the General Assembly for the maintenance of the UNEF force. It explained:
*http://www.un.org/ga/search/view_doc.asp?symbol=A/3354&Lang=E
*http://www.un.org/ga/search/view_doc.asp?symbol=A/3302
The Secretary General’s report above noted that the UN could utilize armed forces in three ways, including bringing an international force setup in agreement among a group of nations into a relationship with the United Nations. Nothing prevents the General Assembly from using that technique, which was first employed by the Security Council and a “coalition of the willing” to conduct the 1st Gulf War.
Why should Israel accede to a hypocritical UN that is biased against it? Were there any UN resolutions against Jordan’s annexation from 1949 to 1967?
Because every member state has a treaty obligation to 1) give the United Nations every assistance in any action it takes in accordance with the Charter, and to refrain from giving assistance to any state (e.g. Israel) against which the United Nations is taking preventive or enforcement action; and 2) the Organization enjoys in the territory of each of its Members such legal capacity as may be necessary for the exercise of its functions and the fulfilment of its purposes, including the self-determination of the peoples of Jordan or Palestine.
A much better question would be why, after all these years, the UN should go on pretending that Israel’s delegation is presenting the credentials of a peace loving member state that represents all of the peoples of its territory when it continues to practice apartheid against the Palestinians and routinely employs threats or use of force against them?
Abdul-Rahman, UNSC Resolutions are of no consequence if the UNSC does not enforce them and the US is very open about its intention of never ever doing anything that would hurt Israel. The enforcing arm of the UN is the SC and with the US veto there, resolutions against Israel are exercises in redundancy. Israel doesn’t abide by any rulings of the Int. Court of Justice, especially those against Israel. They didn’t with the ICJ ruling about removing sections of the wall and restituting the Palestinian lands that had been confiscated by it; the ICJ condemnation was vetoed in the UNSC in 2004.
The U.S and Israel, a law unto themselves.
Bound so tightly together by a common bond.
Our founding fathers would be proud.
Dwight D. Eisenhower a prophet?
Note that the ad never calls Israel a “Jewish state”. This might actually make for an opening. Optimistically, it could even be read as listing standards to which Israel will be held accountable.
