Fmr French foreign minister reportedly says Israel seeks to ‘destroy’ Syria (and any other neighbor it can’t get along with)

Roland Dumas is a former French foreign minister under Socialist President Francois Mitterand. Here is an account from Press TV, the Iranian international news provider, quoting Dumas as saying on French television that the British had been planning an “invasion of rebels into Syria” for at least two years.

Responding to a question on the motive behind inciting violence in Syria, Dumas said, “Very simple! With the very simple aim! To overthrow the Syrian government, because in the region, it’s important to understand, that the Syrian regime makes anti-Israeli talk,” said Dumas

The former foreign minister added that he had been told by an Israeli prime minister a long time ago that Tel Aviv would seek to “destroy” any country that did not “get along” with it in the region.

Press TV said Dumas’s statement came during a recent interview with French Parliamentary TV network, LCP. I wonder if any American news orgs will pick this up.

Aside from a LaRouche organ, which may be the Iranians’ source for the same story:

LCP interrupted, “With what aim? Overthrowing Assad?”

Dumas replied, “Very simple! With the very simple aim! To overthrow the Syrian government, because in the region, it’s important to understand, that the Syrian regime makes anti-Israeli talk. And consequently, everything that moves throughout the region— I was told confidentially by an Israeli prime minister quite a long time ago: we will try to get along with the states throughout the area, and those who don’t get along, we’ll destroy.

“That’s one policy, that’s one conception of history, but after all, why not? But we have to be aware of that.”

I long for the day when ex-leaders have the courage to say what must be said about the zionist criminal acts, intentions and plans in Palestine when they are actually in power.

That clear day is out of our sight. Obama’s memoirs will appear in a dark hour, I suspect. They will cause many readers to cringe.

In 2007 General Wesley Clark talked about the US taking out 7 countries in the middle east including Syria and Iran, here: http://www.globalresearch.ca/we-re-going-to-take-out-7-countries-in-5-years-iraq-syria-lebanon-libya-somalia-sudan-iran/5166
Also Seymour Hersh’s “Redirection” also in2007 described how the US would embrace “moderate” Sunni states in alliance with Israel to confront the Shiite ark of resistance i.e. Iran, Syria and Lebanon [Hezbollah] all playing out now, here: http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2007/03/05/070305fa_fact_hersh If those polls Chomsky talks about in the middle east are correct, i.e. that nearly 90% of the populations of the middle east regard Israel/US as the major threat to the region and only 10% thought Iran as a threat, then it will end in tears, for the Empire.

Compared to Israel’s plans to destroy any nations it doesn’t get along with, how mild the delegitimization of the Zionist entity.

It was on LCP, television from the Assemblee Nationale

I wouldn’t jump to conclusions here. It doesn’t mean there was no considerable local Arab Spring movement. The exact sequence may not matter too much.
