A lot of folks have seen this, according to Youtube. It’s the first truly great speech I’ve seen from a western politician decrying Israeli impunity. David Norris is an Irish senator. Note that he says that he had a home in Israel or Palestine; he had a longtime relationship with Ezra Nawi, the great Israeli activist. Some highlights:

My Jewish and my pro-Israel friends say to me sometimes, How would you fare as a gay man in any of these–? I know exactly how I’d fare. It doesn’t mean that it is correct to deny people the right to choose their own government. What self-respecting or sane people would allow their enemies to choose their government for them?
America has a shameful role to play in this. Israel could not get away with these shameful acts of piracy and brigandage if it wasn’t for the protecting shadow of the United States of America. And I condemn President Obama for his utter inaction.

An estimated 10,000 people showed up for this weeks Protest.
This is twice the previous highest number which was 2 weeks ago.Today,s protest was the 5th one in a row.The protest was held outside the Israeli Embassy.There were several speakers including a Jewish Academic who works at trinity.
A live hook up to Al Shifa Hospital was arranged through which a Doctor relayed the Health situation in Gaza.
One of the organizers said that as long as Israel keeps their siege on Gaza , Irish people will maintain the siege on the Israeli embassy every weekend for as long as it takes.
I watched this over and over, and still do. He is on fire!! It is so true what he says. Not many politicians have the guys to be honest about Israel or even say anything. Which is even more shameful!

David Norris ran for President against Michaels D Higgins who was elected.
David Norris had to pull out when GOI the dirty tricks Dept waged a campaign against him and raised the issue of his Israel partner who had been charged with sexual offenses against a minor.These were denied by Norris who said his partner who was a pro Palestinian activist was the victim of a Kangaroo court.
Norris would have made a fine President.He is an Intellectual and a great scholar.

My answer will be this – Maslow drew a pyramid of human needs . At the lowest level is the survival .
We can use this pyramid also to picture human tolerance . Gay right is a legitimate right that need to be addressed . But a society that is safe and stable is also confident of absorbing and accepting behaviors that are outside the commonly practiced way of life . It can be argued how does gay life threaten a country. It does not . But looking at America at war times will confirm that the tolerance for a lot of actions,speeches,and behaviors do disappear at all levels of the societies and a lot of behaviors are promoted that have no impact on the progress of the wars.
In time of crisis ,people want to come together as one body and mind . It helps if the community practice same religion pray to same God,speak same language,and think alike . Palestine has never been free of crisis.
