Norway’s largest trade union federation endorses full boycott of Israel to advance Palestinian human rights

Activism

Today, the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions (LO), representing close to one million workers, endorsed a full boycott of Israel to achieve Palestinian rights under international law. LO is the largest and most influential umbrella organization of labor unions in Norway.

Commenting on this significant BDS victory in Norway, Riya Hassan, the Europe Campaigns Coordinator with the Palestinian BDS National Committee, said:

The Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions National Committee (BNC) salutes the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions (LO) for endorsing a full “international economic, cultural and academic boycott of Israel” as a necessary means to achieve Palestinian fundamental rights, including the right of return for the refugees and equality for Palestinian citizens of Israel.

By courageously heeding the Palestinian BDS Call, issued by an absolute majority in Palestinian civil society in 2005, LO joins some of the world’s most important trade union federations, including South Africa’s COSATU, Brazil’s CUT, Quebec’s CSN and the IrishICTU, in calling for meaningful BDS pressure on the corporations and institutions that have enabled decades of Israeli occupation, settler-colonialism and apartheid.

The BNC hopes to closely coordinate with Norwegian partners within LO, particularlyFagforbundet, to translate this new policy into effective measures of accountability at the academic, cultural and economic levels to uphold human rights and international law. We also call on LO to apply pressure on the Norwegian government to end all its military ties with Israel’s regime of oppression and to divest its sovereign fund from all companies that are complicit in Israel’s occupation and illegal settlement enterprise.

Kudos to those wonderful people in Norway.

Here is some great news from Dublin , Ireland.

“In an incredible display of solidarity with the Palestinian people’s struggle for justice, equality and freedom from Israeli apartheid and colonialism, Dublin City Council voted by a huge majority to fly the Palestinian flag over Dublin City Hall this month. A lot of pressure was put on Councillors to reject the motion – but thanks to all of you who emailed them in support of the action solidarity prevailed! Sligo and Donegal County Councils also voted to hoist the flag – and the gestures have reverberated around the world, including in Palestine.”

This was achieved in spite of huge efforts by the Israeli Embassy and their mouth pieces to prevent it.I just hope these zionist apologists have to pass by the flag on their way to work every day and suck it up.

To add to the story from Dublin.Read this report from the Irish Times which includes comments from Ireland,s leading Zionist and former Minister of Justice and Defence (both portfolios held concurrently) .He was ousted in the last elections but not before he had time to place an order for military equipment from his beloved Israel , like the good 5th columner , he is.

    From the article .

““The flying of the Palestinian flag by Dublin City Council will do profound damage to the reputation of our capital city and our country. Should further atrocities be perpetrated on Israelis in the coming days and weeks, there is considerable risk that Dublin City Council will be internationally perceived to be supportive of terrorist acts,” he wrote.”Alan Shetter.

Just in case the situation arises, if it hasn’t already:

““The flying of the Israeli flag by Dublin City Council will do profound damage to the reputation of our capital city and our country. Should further atrocities be perpetrated on Palestinians in the coming days and weeks, there is considerable risk that Dublin City Council will be internationally perceived to be supportive of terrorist acts (and countless other crimes against humanity),” he wrote.” [A Concerned Citizen]

In response to the article and Amigo’s interesting comments. It is good to know other nations are working hard for human rights.

Never shall either be seen here in the US.

        Nor here in Australia.
There are more non-Jewish zionists in Australia than Jewish zionists – 120,000 Jews and 23 million non-Jews and practically all those in all our numerous governments – local, state and federal support Israel as if Australia is an Israeli colony.

Not true, Kay! Here’s the straight story from Electronic Intifada, July 25, 2016:

The National Labor Relations Board has reaffirmed its dismissal of charges against the United Electrical workers union because of its support for the Palestinian-led boycott, divestment and sanctions movement.

The NLRB is the US federal agency that enforces the country’s trade union legislation.

In August 2015, the 30,000-strong United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America, known as UE, became only the second national trade union in the US to back BDS by a vote of delegates at its annual convention in Baltimore….

Shurat HaDin appealed the dismissal, but on 26 May the labor board’s general counsel issued a letter that the union says reaffirms the earlier decision to throw the case out….

UE national president Peter Knowlton welcomed the decision in a press release on Friday.

Knowlton said that UE had in the past “withstood attempts by the US government to silence us during the McCarthy era in the 1950s,” and was “unbowed by the latest attempt of a surrogate of the Israeli government to stifle our call for justice for Palestinian and Israeli workers.”

      Keep working for justice, all!

Go Norway, Ireland, BDS! Meanwhile my country’s trending state legislatures are muzzling BDS as “anti-Semitic” hate speech.

    @Amigo
Thank you for the good news from Ireland.

Is this Shatter person for real – he sounds as if he has had a Zio chip implant?

I am surprised that he didn`t go the extra mile and describe it eg as “emblematic terrorism” to keep himself in tune with the latest Hasbara script.

As you say a staightforward 5th Columner. He should pack his bags and piss off to his beloved Zion on a one way ticket.
