Those killed in Gaza have a name, and each has a family that grieves for them

With the exception of the two men Israel assassinated on Friday March 9 – Zuhair al-Qaisy, secretary-general of the Popular Resistance Committees, and Mahmoud Ahmad Al-Hanini, a Hamas military leader – the Palestinians killed remained nameless in all mainstream media accounts of the recent Israeli attacks on Gaza. Charge or Release? Israeli military courts as an enforcement mechanism of occupation

During Khader Adnan’s hunger strike many expressed that he should be charged, or released. It must be noted that “being charged” in the Israeli military courts, the justice system that governs Palestinians in the occupied West Bank of Palestine, is in no way a solution for Palestinian political prisoners. The abolition of administrative detention (a call which has been taken up by Amnesty International) is a long-term demand of the Palestinian prisoners’ movement – and Israel’s use of this system violates international law.

In my native Lebanon, where I volunteered last winter in a number of Palestinian refugees camps such as Burj el Barajne, I saw first hand the immense level of deprivation Palestinians face as refugees in Lebanon, where they are prevented from the right to work, from joining any Lebanese trade unions, from owning property and even denied social security.
