  • Steve Walt edges ever closer to... One democratic state
  • Who’s behind the attacks on flotilla ships? Perhaps it was Israel’s very own underwater sabotage unit
    • "Given the propeller’s size and mass, it is clear that heavy machinery was needed to bend it in such manner."
Clear to you. What's you education and experience in this field?

  • Portland's 'friendliest' markets refused to meet boycott advocates, and stocked many Israeli brands, and so--
    • What happened to the campaign against Caterpillar? Did the BDS activists give up? Looks like the stock price just keep on rocketing up.
My investment strategy is to buy whatever BDS targets.

    • Not quite right Alex. There are other groups besides Israel that feel IHH has ties to terrorism
"The Istanbul-based Foundation for Human Rights and Freedoms and Humanitarian Relief, known by its Turkish acronym IHH, had "clear, long-standing ties to terrorism and Jihad," former investigating judge Jean-Louis Bruguiere told The Associated Press in a telephone interview.
Bruguiere, who led the French judiciary's counterterrorism unit for nearly two decades before retiring in 2007, didn't indicate whether IHH now has terror ties, but said it did when he investigated it in the late 1990s.
"They were basically helping al-Qaida when (Osama) bin Laden started to want to target U.S. soil," he said."

    • I hope the Tennis Channel has more on Peer. They should do a full special on her. A commercial free hour would be about right.

  • The trap
    • You are right Israel should put Palestinians, Lebanese, Syrians and Iranian security first. Big deal the Arabs went to war in an effort to ethnically cleanse Israel of Jews and failing at war launched thousands of terror attacks against Israeli civilians.
I can't figure out why Israel gets so upset at having Israeli children blown up at a disco and pizza parlor. The Israelis should be happy only 30 Israelis were killed by Hamas in the Passover Massacre.
Of course it's paranoia that the Palestinians have rejected every offer at peace. What else could it be?

    • Flexible on right of return?
""just settlement" of the Palestinian refugee crisis based on UN Resolution 194 (which calls for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict and recommends that Israel and Arab states to allow any refugees, Jewish or Arab, "wishing to return to their homes and live at peace with their neighbors" to do so and to provide compensation for those who do not want to return)."
      link to en.wikipedia.org
Obviously Israelis ethnically cleansed from Arab countries are not returning to those countries and Israel is not going to take in 5 million Arabs and commit suicide, making the Arab Peace Initiative worthless.

    • What you don't want to face Richard is the Palestinians have rejected every peace offer. If Olmert's offer was unacceptable there is very little more Israel can offer. The Israelis are never going to live as a minority in an Arab dictatorship and at the end of the day they get to decide what type of government they want.

    • What a wonderful and courageous young lady. It is inspiring to see her stand up to the goons.

  • Free Gaza flotilla subject to coordinated Israeli government media campaign & military action
    • What happened to those beautiful greenhouses Israel left in Gaza?
Did Israel destroy them? They don't seem to exist anymore.
"reasonable security needs" I think after suffering almost daily terrorist attacks targeted at civilians, Israels view of reasonable and yours are probably vastly different.

  • 'Newsweek' justifies collective punishment in Gaza
    • You really don't have the life experience to judge Witty. What are your accomplishments other than posting inane comments on this blog?

  • With sea confrontation looming, New Yorkers say 'break the blockade'
    • About 50 of those protesters can usually be found in Union Square. They set up a table there daily. That means you got about 50 fresh faces. Not bad.

  • Beinart rues absence of Palestinian voices-- and redlining of Chas Freeman and Rob Malley
    • Non democratic Arab states have better than 99.5% of the region and it's not enough?
When and if the "Palestinians" get a state it won't be secular and it won't be democratic.

    • Sounds very noble. What specifically do you want Israelis to give up, their country? Their freedom?
Do you think after almost daily suicide bombings where friends, relatives and loved ones were blown to bits that Israelis should just forget about security?

    • There will never be a binational state. Israelis would never accept living under Arab repression.
Keep dreaming. It makes you feel good and it changes nothing.

  • Propaganda on the Tennis Channel during rain delay at the French Open
    • Last count there was 75 assassins and they were suspicious of 80 others.

    • In 5 years time life will still be very good in Israel. The economy will grow exponentially. The Arab world will still be a repressive nightmare. There still won't be a single Arab democracy. Phil will still make a living being an anti Zionist. The people who comment here will still comment here. Unfortunately the Palestinians will reject every peace offer and not have a state.

I wonder how many Israelis were wounded and died and thanks to this spy?

    • "There have been hundreds like him before, innocent people who were considered “suspects”, and there will be hundreds more."

Innocent? The man is a traitor and a spy. He's going to be in prison for most of the rest of his life.

Poor spy got caught. Tough luck.

  • Beinart's hermetics
    • Groundbreaking essay? It's the same old Liberal whining from a whining liberal.
"How hard it must be for Beinart to ally with his employer, the New America Foundation, and Haaretz, Americans for Peace Now, the Israel Policy Forum, the New York Review of Books, the Nation magazine, the New York Times editorial and op-ed pages, Time magazine, the American Conservative, the American Prospect, Mother Jones, the entirety of the British and European media, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, B'tselem, J Street, J Call, the New Israel Fund, Richard Goldstone, the UN Human Rights Council, the UN General Assembly, the European Union, the British Foreign Office, the European Council, scores of NGOs, Walt and Mearsheimer, Tom Segev, Avi Shlaim, Tony Judt, Tel Aviv University, every Middle East Studies department, George Soros, the Ford Foundation, Brent Scowcroft, Zbigniew Brzezinski, Jimmy Carter, Andrew Sullivan, Noam Chomsky, Mondoweiss, and ... well, you get the picture."

  • If Saban bought 'LA Times,' Americans wouldn't hear Ahmad Tibi's call for equality
    • "reflecting his views as a failed pop-group bass player, who made it big selling crap Japanese culture to idiot Americans."

Just shows the strength of character of Saban. Coming back from the terrible trauma of being a bass player failure he made himself a billionaire. What a man.

  • Finkelstein on Morris, on the root cause of the conflict
    • Norman doesn't do any original research. He doesn't speak Hebrew or Arabic. He takes the work of others, mostly Morris, and cherry picks quotes that sound like it they support his argument.
It's not surprising that a second rate academic like Finkelstein who never does any peer reviewed work doesn't have a teaching job. He's really not qualified to debate a real Historian like Morris.

    • The Palestinians turned down the Partition Resolution and went to war. That's what happened. Israel in its' desire for peace accepted a rump state. Trying to excuse the Arab effort to ethnically cleanse the region of Jews with could haves, would haves etc. means nothing.
      Typical palaprop.

  • 'Ir Amim' comes to the US to smash Jewish 'myths' about Jerusalem
  • Beinart has pushed the reset button on Israel
    • "Of course, Israel bears a great deal of responsibility for this. They have utterly disregarded these developments as they took place and have recklessly failed on the public diplomacy front. Today, they are perceived as the aggressor and the bias against them is so acute in the media that when Palestinians launch thousands of missiles against Israel and Israel responds, the world thinks of Israel as the aggressor or when a couple of years ago a missile threat from Lebanon provoked an effective Israeli response, world public opinion concluded both that Israel started the conflict and lost it despite the fact that neither assertion is actually true."

      Great points.

  • Did Specter's blind support for Israel help end his career? Just wondering
  • The continuing power of Walt & Mearsheimer
    • The minor land exchanges were never the real issue. The real issue is right of return. No Palestinian leader will ever give that up and Israel will not accept more than a few thousand Arabs into Israel.

    • Page: 5
    • Your link explains how Cheney came under the influence of Zionists. How they brainwashed him. Made him into the Manchurian Vice President. He never would have had those political views otherwise. No chance that Cheney who was a very successful businessman and politician might have hired people who felt like he did.

    • The Jews brainwashed Bush and Cheney who were actually very much against the war and forced them to attack Iraq for Israel. The reports that Israel warned Bush several times he was going after the wrong enemy are completely untrue. Scott McConnell says so and we all know how unbiased he is.

  • 'Beinart, your brutal honesty makes you my political foe'
    • You really talk an incredible amount of nonsense. The "Palestinians" are Arabs and virtually all Muslims. A much higher percentage of Palestinians are Muslims than Israelis are Jewish. Their government in Gaza is one of the most repressive and intolerant on earth.

    • Peter Beinart probably won't sleep tonight Ofer Neiman, whoever that is, is mad at him. I love to see self promoting leftests fighting each other.

  • Martin Indyk's references to Nakba represent denial of atrocities
    • ": they know Europeans were going to kick them out of their homes at gunpoint, and that is exactly what happened."

Israel accepted the partition and peace. the Arabs went to war. That's reality however you try to spin it.
Palestinian firsters always try to hide that fact.

    • 800,000 Jews were thrown out of Arab Countries. That's the reality no matter how many anti Zionists or Messianic Jews you quote.
Another fact: The Arabs started a war causing thousands of deaths and now want to be compensated for their actions. Amazing.

    • The facts are the Arabs went to war to destroy Israel and lost. Now they want to get politically what they couldn't get with violence.
If the Arabs didn't resort to war there would be no Naqba.

  • What's Hebrew for 'Sun City'?
    • The purpose of BDS is to destroy Israel. They know they don't have any shot of succeeding at that so they will try in little steps.

    • It's good to hear your opinions on modern culture in Israel. What are you about a 100 years old?
Have another cigarette, something will come to you.

    • They care about making money Pammy. Why else would they play any of the repressive sheikdoms you support that have their workers in a state of virtual slavery and treat woman like chattel?

Life would be perfect for you.

  • Making the case for Zionism
    • Palaprop and reality are starkly different. They show a few idiots and decide and that changes the fact that the Palestinians reject peace. Have always rejected peace.
According to an independent poll reported by Haaretz:
" With respect to final status, 59% of Palestinians polled deemed an Islamic Waqf from the Jordan River to the Sea as "essential," and an additional 12% as "desirable." 71% said "greater Palestine" from the Jordan to the Sea was essential and 11% found that option desirable. How these apparent preferences square with a two-state solution is left unsaid.
      - In contrast, only 17% of Israelis deemed the "greater Israel" option "essential" while 47% found "greater Israel" to be "unacceptable."
      link to haaretz.com
Israel will never be an Islamic Waqf. Time to get used to it.

  • Elvis Costello cancels Israel concerts: sometimes it's 'impossible to simply look the other way'
    • Wow Elvis Costello! Just think what a victory this is in getting a racist performer that was over 30 years ago to cancel.
I remember when Costello called Ray Charles "blind, ignorant, nig...". What a wonderful guy.

  • Nakba Day is a reminder that George Mitchell can't ignore Palestinian refugees
    • Richard, the Palestinians rejected Olmert's generous offer because their bottom line is 5 million Palestinians "returning" to Israel. Israel is never going to allow 5 million Palestinians to "return". What is left to discuss?

    • Despite the fact the Arabs went to war to exterminate the Jewish population, and the need to settle the 1 million Jews ethnically cleansed from Arab countries, Israel was still willing to allow 100,000 Arabs to return. The Arab countries responsible for the Palestinian disaster refused to take any.

  • Kattan: Truman administration threatened sanctions against 'brutal' Israeli stance on refugees
    • "The claim of premeditated dispossession is itself not only baseless, but the inverse of the truth. Far from being the hapless victims of a predatory Zionist assault, the Palestinians were themselves the aggressors in the 1948-49 war, and it was they who attempted, albeit unsuccessfully, to "cleanse" a neighbouring ethnic community. Had the Palestinians and the Arab world accepted the United Nations resolution of November 29, 1947, calling for the establishment of two states in Palestine, and not sought to subvert it by force of arms, there would have been no refugee problem in the first place."

"Indeed, if one were to insist on the applicability of international law, here is one instance where it speaks unequivocally. In 1948-49, the Palestinians and Arab states launched a war of aggression against the Jewish community and the newly-proclaimed state of Israel, in the process driving out from their territories hundreds of thousands of innocent Jews and seizing their worldly goods. Ever since, these same aggressors have been suing to be made whole for the consequences of their own failed aggression. Both legally and morally, the idea is grotesque."

  • The greatest lecture Chomsky never gave is boost to BDS movement
    • Chomsky has to be the most boring human ever. Imagine being in detention with him for 12 hours listening to him drone on about the "leading expert blah, blah , blah" . I would lose my mind. Fortunately he was with a follower of his cult of boredom.

  • Israel reportedly denied Noam Chomsky entry to West Bank
    • First the Spanish clown, now the American clown what is the world coming to.

    • "Yonira, I’m enjoying seeing you and like Israelis begining to wet your pants about the BDS steamroller coming down your way. "

Quite a steamroller. In the 10 years of BDS you have accomplished exactly nothing. Even the supporters of BDS know it can't hurt Israel.
Watching you lose time after time has been a lot of fun.

  • 'Haaretz' covered Berkeley BDS struggle while 'NYT' turned a deaf ear
    • Jewish students didn't elect Obama. How many Jewish student voters are there?
Berkeley is about the most left wing campus there is and in the end you still lost. If you can't win at Berkely where can you win?
In 10 years of BDS you have accomplished zero, nada, the big nothing.

  • An Israeli on Nakba Day: 'Our humanity is bound up with your right to return'
    • Not the famous Naiem Giladi. You anti Zionists search far and wide for some nut who verifies your world view.
Mordechai Ben-Porat, Moshe Gat, Shlomo Hillel all alive and in a position to know the truth deny Giladi's version.
Iraq didn't evict over 100,000 Jews steal their homes and property because of a bombing. The Arabs ethnically cleansed and stole the property of 1 million Jews. When are they getting their property back?
Israel offered to take back 100,000 Arabs and reimburse the rest. The Arabs offered nothing. Where is your moral outrage?

    • It was Arab leadership that decided to go to war. First with the Civil War. Then with an all out invasion. If they had accepted the Partition resolution today there would be 2 Arab States in what was Palestine.
A million Jews lost their homes in Arab countries with out hope of getting them back, Israel took them in. the oil rich, land rich Arab world should have accepted their brethren. Instead for political reasons they kept them in camps.

  • Even Reform American rabbis are fanatical about Jerusalem
    • "In 1920, the San Remo Conference determined that the legal title to the Land of Israel - including Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria belonged to the Jewish people. The San Remo resolutions were incorporated into international law through the mandates issued by the League of Nations and their legal force has never been cancelled or superseded by any subsequent treaty or binding international resolution."
      link to carolineglick.com
Jerusalem belongs to Israel. If they decide to partition it and give part of it over to the Arabs like Olmert proposed that's their decision. It's unlikely that it will bring peace.

    • "If you believe in Partition (and I am agnostic), you can't believe in Jews holding Jerusalem."

"Agnostic" in the sense of Israel not existing? That is long over.
Jews holding Jerusalem is the fairest solution. The Arabs defiled and destroyed Jewish holy sites when they controlled Jerusalem. They proved themselves unable rule Jerusalem.

  • Rahm Emanuel assures Haim Saban he's a hawk for Israel
    • Emanuel is a 2 state guy. he's said it about a million times. He supports 1967 borders with minor modifications. No full ROR. Pretty much what Obama, Clinton most of Congress support.
The Palestinians are for 1 state. There is no acceptable Palestinian peace plan where millions of Palestinian don't 'return' to Israel.

    • What's your peace plan? Obviously you think what Olmert offered wasn't enough.

  • Excerpt from: 'The Unspoken Alliance: Israel's Secret Relationship with Apartheid South Africa'
    • Goldstone report was flawed because it was flawed. Goldstones character flaws certainly doesn't help his credibility. He also is a proven liar. he stated the UN mandate was changed enabling to take on the mission. I challenge you to find any change in the UN mandate. Either Goldstone is hallucinating or a blatant liar. His 2 partners, the Irish Colonel Travers who states only 2 rockets fell on Israel prior to the invasion of Gaza and that Israelis deliberately shot Irish Peace Keepers in Lebanon, which never happened, is apparently a nut. His other partner signed a statement condemning Israel before taken on the UN job. In any real world investigation it would disqualify her, with the UN it's just the opposite.

    • I just knew Goldstone was innocent. No way Goldstone sent 28 Black men to their deaths and had numerous others tortured. Israel trading with South Africa proves it.

  • Inside the Beltway, at Cato no less, Iranian honoree says 'gushing wound of Palestine' is source of the radical fundamentalism
    • "the Likudnik hive will put out boatloads of words to shore up their big lie: Israel has nothing to with our problems in the MidEast, it’s the liberty of American women they can’t stand. "

Scott: Is it the Likudniks that turned down peace at Taba? Was it the Likudniks that refused Olmert's over generous offer? An offer which included giving up half of Jerusalem and putting holy sites under international supervision.
Is it the Likudniks that expect 5 million Arabs to "return" to Israel and will not sign a peace treaty unless Israel commits suicide?
I realize it's not PC to say this but the big lie is that the Palestinians will settle for anything less than everything.

  • New 'HRW' report affirms Goldstone's claim: Israel wantonly destroyed Gaza's civilian infrastructure
    • HRW is a big organization. I don't really care about the guy who does the accounting. The Middle East division is what I am talking about. Funny you left out the whole Middle East division. Whitson, Stork, Mair, Barhoum etc. I wonder why?

    • Sarah Leah Whitson Director Middle East HRW. When hired she was on the board of directors and Board of trustees American-Arab Anti discrimination Committee. About as pro Palestinian as it gets.
Joe Stork deputy director editor of MERIP radical anti Israel publication. Stork praised the slaughter of Israeli Munich athletes.
Lucy Mair, HRW researcher writes for the Electronic Intifada,International Program Coordinator for CESR. Another pro Palestinian radical organization.
Nadia Barhoum, a Palestinian-American, was an active member in Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at the University of California.
I was very brief . Do a google search and you will see all the top people at HRW Middle East division have incredibly long records of pro Palestinian activism.

    • HRW is an organization of Palestinian activists. Everyone know it. They have lost all credibility except in the Palestinian activist community.
This report like their previous reports will go in the garbage.

  • Jeffrey Goldberg vs Nelson Mandela
    • No different from your denial of facts and replacing them with Palapro.

    • Goldstone's murderous record stands on its' own. he sent dozens of black men to their deaths and imprisoned and had tortured many others. This is fine to you because he wrote a report against Israel and switched sides in South Africa when he saw who was going to win.
Goldstones barbaric actions in SA are not lessened because Israel had a trading relationship with SA. The dozens of men Goldstone had executed are still quite dead. The men Goldstone had tortured will still bear their scars.

  • if this were happening in the U.S., we would fill the streets
    • Why not just accept Olmert's offer?
Granted it allowed for Israel to exist. I realize it's tough for the Palestinians to accept, but if the Palestinians think eventually 5 million Palestinians are 'returning' to Israel they are never going to get a state.

    • "So what are the Zionists waiting for?"

For the Palestinians to accept a peace offer.

  • Has he no shame?
    • How do we know Phil was paid? Don't be an idiot. In the real world people are paid for appearances on TV shows broadcast by the BBC. A show that is sold to foreign markets.

    • What we know is he was paid by the country of Qatar through their phony Qatar foundation.
We know most workers in Qatar can never become citizens though their families are in the country for generations. We know they have practically no rights. We know how woman are treated in Qatar.
we know Qatar "is a transit and destination country for men and women trafficked for the purposes of involuntary servitude and, to a lesser extent, commercial sexual exploitation."

You really have to try harder. I've proven Phil cares nothing for human rights. It's all about his hatred for Israel.

    • Have you no shame Phil? You filled your pockets with cash from from Qatar. Qatar a dictatorship that does not allow most of its' workers ever become citizens though their families live there for generations.
Wikipedia: "Like other Persian Gulf nations, Qatar has sponsorship laws, which have been widely criticized as "modern-day slavery."

  • In the Chicago Tribune, Mearsheimer explains why 'the Zionist dream' is in danger

  • Dershowitz and Jeffrey Goldberg are against apartheid
    • Your bias causes you to try to twist the facts.
We saw that when you attempted to pass off old reports on Olmert's offer when in later reports we had statements and maps from both sides. I don't expect that you will ever face the truth but here it is.
It was know Goldstone was a Judge during the Apartheid years, but the media and Goldstone gave the impression he was fighting Apartheid from inside the judicial system, not that he was sending Black men to their deaths by the dozens. Nor did Goldstone or the media reveal he sent Black South Africans to be tortured. I knew about that poor 13 year old child he sent to prison with hardened criminals for possessing an anti apartheid tape, but not about the depths of his evil.
What Goldstone was good at was promoting himself and switching to the side that was winning.
What's great is the anti Israel progressives are going to defend Goldstone till the bitter end.

    • Is there something written in these reports that's false? If Goldstone can't refute these charges he's going down. The pressure will build as his record comes out bit by bit. Eventually he will get up on stage in a choked voice and with tears streaming down his face and say "I was just following orders".
It's over for Goldy. Soon the international media will pick up the story. He is going to become an international pariah. Eventually even Phil won't defend him.

    • Nice quote from Human Rights Watch. I don't believe it for a second. Where are the minutes from the Saudi trip? What are they hiding Red?

    • What has been the problem with Iran except that it succeeded in making Iranians, and not the tin pot Shah, the prime beneficiaries of Iran’s national oil?
Could it be that the Mullah's killed thousands of people including a good friend of mine?
HRW is a phony organization. Everything they do is based on their left wing ideology. Every single member of their middle east bureau(or whatever they call it) is a long time Palestinian activist. Whitson went to Saudi Arabia covered from head to toe to beg the Saudi Government for money to fight Israel. This supposedly open organization refuses to release the minutes of the Saudi meeting. They refuse to release the investigation into Galasco. They seem to have a lot of secrets.

    • The amount of time you spend on this blog shows money is not too important to you. To the rest of us that have families, it is a priority.
Surasky is complaining about being cut off from the cash. I am amused how she favors doing it to others, but freaks out when it happens to her.
      Typical left winger.

    • It is BDS. This time it's you being boycotted. Tough luck.
You can always fund raise in Saudi Arabia like Human Rights Watch. Simply get on your knees, tell the Saudis how you love their open and free society and how much you hate Israel. The cash will flow in.

Really? do you have any links or did you make that up?
Intersting article about Muslim life in France:
With little hope of making it outside the projects, many of these young men try to dominate their own neighborhoods, resorting to violence, especially against young women.
"They rule gangland style, combined with the male-dominated traditions of the Arab countries they came from. It's gotten so bad that, today, most of the young women only feel safe if they are covered up, or if they stay at home. Girls who want to look just like other French girls are considered provocative, asking for trouble."

What kind of country allows woman to be treated in this manner? France is an absolute disgusting mess. the UN needs to step in. Where's Goldstone?

    • Gee, you hurt my feelings.
I thought this blog supported realism. What's wrong with a mural that speaks truth?

    • Arabs are not the indigenous people of Palestine. They are merely invaders.

    • A mural of Hamas throwing people off of buildings or kneecapping them would be much more interesting.

    • Good idea. I would love to see Phil or Adam run for Congress. It won't happen, but it would be fun to see their financial records.

    • Why would I care about how many outraged comments you have made about a Jewish conspiracy?
"The question is not, can the Jews survive without Goldstone, but, rather, can Goldstone survive without the Jews? "
Absolutely true. Sure Goldstone will have Mearsheimer's "righteous", Jews to comfort him, but can you imagine the effect it's going to have on his children and grandchildren and their community to hear about the 29 Black South Africans he had executed? How he sent a 13 year old child to prison with hardened criminals for demonstrating against apartheid. Do you think they will feel better that he was only following orders?
It's not going to be pretty.

    • It's you who sound desperate Phil. Goldstone has been changing his tune. "I am not aware that the UN Gaza Report has or is being used to delegitimize Israel by questioning her right to exist as a member of the International Community. I would object to any such use being made of it." He is looking for love from the Jewish Community and the only love he will get is from Mearsheimer's "righteous" Jews. It's very uncomfortable being a pariah.
Goldstone is heading for a crash and it's going to be very interesting to watch it.

  • Now, Goldstone is trying to delegitimize US sovereignty (and maybe impose Sharia law too)
    • The guy who fills his pocket with Arab cash tells others to follow the money?

  • Big brave Charney Bromberg says... it's apartheid
    • It's amazing that Phil who claims he didn't care about Israel/Palestine until he was in his late 40's is so critical of a true scholar Gorenberg. It's hard to imagine someone who claims to care so deeply for the Palestinians didn't give a crap about them one way or another for almost his entire life.
Jeffrey Goldberg said it perfectly when talking about Mearsheimer's "righteous Jews: "The others, though, are part of a tiny minority of Jews who believe that the destruction of Israel will bring them the approval of non-Jews, which they crave."

  • Where Sullivan gets it wrong: there already is a non-violent Palestinian movement
    • The thousands of rockets and mortars shot at Israeli civilians is non violent? How about the Passover Massacre and the thousands of suicide bombings are they symbolic?

    • Debunked? Debunked by who Abbas? No. He was interviewed and verified the offer, try again. Even Erekat in Benn's later article said: "the Palestinians demand full sovereignty over the Temple Mount and are not prepared to hand it over to an international body."
Reality is tough. Truth hurts. Palaprop goes down much easier.

    • It's hard to believe you are this dumb. To Islamic fundies like Hamas religion is everything. To Hamas all of historic Palestine is an is an Islamic Waqf.

    • Nice trick Shmuel. You give an earlier article by the same author to refute what was found out later.
Jerusalem was discussed and Olmert came out with a very fair solution.
"As for Jerusalem, Olmert proposed dividing sovereignty between the Jewish and Arab neighborhoods, and leaving the Old City's "holy basin" and its surroundings without sovereignty, under the management of an international committee with the participation of Israel, Palestine, the United States, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. "
The real point of contention and the reason Abbas rejected peace was the "return" of 5 million Arabs to Israel. It is never going to happen. If that's the deal breaker there will never be a Palestinian State.

    • "Olmert's map proposed that the Palestinians establish their state on 93.5 percent of the West Bank, receiving another 5.8 percent through a land exchange with Israel. The rest would come in a "safe passage" corridor from the West Bank to the Gaza Strip. The map left the settlement blocs in Israel's control - Ma'aleh Adumim, Ariel and Gush Etzion - proposing in exchange lands in the southern Hebron Hills, the Judean Hills and the Beit She'an Valley. According to the Palestinians, Olmert also proposed dividing the no-man's-land near Latrun. All told, Abbas was offered an area equal to the whole West Bank - 100 percent. "

Of course Abbas rejected this offer as he will reject every offer that Israel doesn't commit suicide.

  • If Fayyad is so great, why not let Israelis vote for him too?
  • 'NYT' falsely suggests that anti-Zionist scribes are beavering away in Jewish media
    • What a surprise, you are exactly right. People on this site see a bunch of anti Zionist Jews and they think that maybe the Jewish Community is turning on Israel. Just the opposite. I've been to Jewish Community Centers in Europe and the US and have met hundreds of Jews and have yet to meet an anti Zionist.

  • US aid for Palestinian roads facilitates hateful Israeli system of separate roadways
    • Wrong, wrong ,wrong. The Palestinians have and will reject any peace offer that does not allow 5 million Arabs to return to Israel. That is the reason Abbas rejected Olmert's offer. It had nothing to do with Judea and Samaria.

    • The Israel haters are very quick to offer up your lives. It would be cheaper and easier for Israel to have one set of roads, but unfortunately Palestinian terror makes separate roads a necessity.

    • When you send homicide bombers on a daily basis to kill civilians you get a wall. They should have thought of the repercussions before wiping out that family at Passover, or those kids in the pool hall or those poor unfortunates blown to bits at Sbarros.
The wall is actually a pretty mild response to constant Palestinian terror. The IMF and the EU should give Israel more money and thank Israel for the wall.

  • Freeman: Israel is useless to US power projection
    • Grant Smith is a riot his "devatating FBI raids" on Aipac is typical of his nonsense. The raids were so devastating not a single Aipac member was charged with anything. So devastating that the secrets czar J. William Leonard was testifying for Rosen. So devastating all charges were dropped against Rosen. Let me know when something devastating happens.

    • They dropped the charges because they didn't have a case. Your gray material theory is typical bs. Several people involved in US intelligence were going to testify for Rosen including the former federal classification czar, J. William Leonard.
Rosen stated the US government forced Aipac to fire him. They knew he was innocent but took the politically safe route by firing him and now they are going to have to pay him.

    • No, the Palestinians continue to reject every peace offer. They will never get a better deal than what Olmert offered and as they always do, they rejected it. The only deal they will accept is 5 million Arabs "returning" to Israel.

    • Steve Rosen's legacy was that he was the target of a witch hunt who was exonerated. Rosen stood up to his attackers and didn't let them shut him up. While still under indictment he wrote several columns which eventually took down Chas Freeman. Rosen is a true American hero.

    • Freeman's bonafides include lining his pocket with Saudi cash.

    • The great Steve Rosen said about Chas: "His views of the region are what you would expect in the Saudi foreign ministry, with which he maintains an extremely close relationship, not the top CIA position for analytic products going to the President of the United States."
Fortunately when Freeman's record started coming out he quickly withdrew his nomination.
