Darling, the world is changing under our feet. On page F2 of the Washington Post, there's an interview with wily lefty cookbook writer Chris Fair, who sneaks in some samizdat about Israel and Palestine. Some day this stuff will be in the A section:
terrorist-supporting revolutionary guard corps?
A. Oh, there's no question that Ahmadinejad was a bad guy.
A. Libya had cleaned up its act by the time I got to writing. It was going to be included. Israel has pursued nukes beyond the scope of the Nuclear
Nonproliferation Treaty and, like India and Pakistan, is a hideous
violator of human rights. [Very shrewd of you to say India and Pakistan, Chris!]
include a Palestinian casserole in the menu for an Israeli dinner party?
A. It's in keeping with the tone of the book. To me, it's an interesting
symbol that they hoist up Arab food as a national food of Israel. I
like that particular dish a lot; it's the Arab version of shepherd's
pie.
Which is worse? Nailing Israel on human rights or dignifying Arab culture? The letter-writers the Post will now print in profusion will let us know. (Thanks to Janet McMahon for the tip.)
