Ralph Nader has taken up the USS Liberty cause, challenging John McCain over the 1967 attack/accident on Israel's part that killed 34 American sailors. I never look into this myself. Because I know what I'd think–Nader says it's a coverup, and Nader's always right about this kind of thing.
Update, from Jack Ross: All the evidence supports the notion that it was a deliberate attack,
but I've never found any of the speculated motives to be satisfactory.
Thus my conclusion which others I've talked too support that it was a Dr. Strangelove
scenario – a mad rogue officer ordered it and once it happened cover-up
was in everyone's interest. I also understand that Tom Segev basically
supports this case in his book on 1967.
