BF writes:
"It seems like the most obvious thing about the Arab parties that you didn't mention is the double
irony of the ADL's statement on the diversity of the electorate. Livni's party was one of those that
voted to ban two of the Arab parties. And yet, she could very well be
including Avigdor Lieberman in her coalition, even though she said his entire
platform was based on hate.
"Also, note Foxman's defense of Avigdor and his loyalty oath:
an organization that is quick to spot instances of discrimination, says
Lieberman is right to be concerned about apparent acts of disloyalty by
Israeli Arabs.
Abraham Foxman,
the ADL's national director, noted with concern the trips by Arab
Israeli Knesset members to enemy states and expressions of solidarity
with Hamas by Israeli Arabs during Israel's recent military operation in the Gaza Strip.
"There
were a lot of people who said, 'Hey, that's disloyal,' " Foxman told
JTA. "That's what he's talking about. He's not saying expel them. He's
not saying punish them."
Is that so — then how does Foxman explain this:
"Get the hell out of here." Lieberman replied, "You're a terrorist
representing terrorists. We'll deal with you like with any other
terrorist, like we dealt with Hamas."
And note that the Arab parties are refusing to back Livni:
Livni
will not be able to count on the support of the three Arab factions,
whose MKs are still upset at her for her role in Operation Cast Lead
and for saying in December that in the event of the formation of a
Palestinian state, the national aspirations of Israeli Arabs "lie
elsewhere."
"What Livni said about us is worse than Lieberman,"
United Arab List-Ta'al MK Ahmed Tibi said on Saturday night. "That's
why we won't recommend to Peres that Livni form a government."
