Yesterday, and apropos of Helen Thomas, I passed along a Matthew Yglesias post from 2002 that recommended pushing Palestinians out of the territories, from which his career, unlike hers, recovered. Yglesias sent me a note to say that he said a lot of dumb things when he was in college:
I think the basic point is correct — there’s no reason to think that expressing anti-Palestinian views will hurt anyone’s career. But I would appreciate it if the post were amended to make clear that I totally agree that’s a terrible thing to say (or to have said) and not at all my current view.
