I collect string on the prominent Jewish presence in the American establishment. I do so with one main purpose: to help Jews Be Here Now.
To explain to readers that liberal democracy more than works for Jews, that we do not need a warehoused Jim-Crow state in the Middle East on other people’s lands to run to when anti-Semitism gets hot. Because history doesn’t repeat itself. First time tragedy, second time farce. Have I made my philosophy clear? Yesterday on Charlie Rose, he had four Times columnists to offer their views of foreign policy and suchlike. Three were Jews (Brooks, Cohen, Friedman); I don’t know about David Leonhardt. OK, and the latest New Yorker contains two big profiles, one of Jaron Lanier, computer scientist/visionary, and the other of Sheryl Sandberg, who is a Facebook exec. Sandberg was formerly at Google, and as a girl she worked for her parents’ Soviet Jewry advocacy group.
