Haaretz, on the case:

Likud MK Ofir Akunis, who sponsored the bill to limit foreign funding to Israeli human rights organization, stood behind Senator Joseph’s McCarthy’s actions in the 1950s. Speaking on Sunday on the “London and Kirshenbaum” television show on Channel 10, Akunis said McCarthy – who in the 1950s presided over a committee that investigated Americans suspected of harboring Communist views – said “was right in every word, the fact is -there were Soviet agents.”

According to the bill, which was proposed by Akunis and has been backed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, political NGOs in Israel would not be allowed to receive donations exceeding 20,000 shekels provided by foreign governments and international organizations, such as the UN and the European Union.

will zionist political ngos in israel still be allowed to receive money from foreign governments and international organizations? allowed to do so even when this money is used to support terrorism against palestinians and their israeli/international supporters in gaza and the west bank?

“There were Soviet agents”. Indeed there were. And today, there are Israeli agents.

Shh, don’t say it to anybody. You are not suppose to tell.

RE: “…[Likud MK Ofir] Akunis said McCarthy… “was right in every word, the fact is -there were Soviet agents.” ~ Weiss

MY COMMENT: I challenge Likud MK Ofir Akunis to name each of the 57 “known Communists working for the State Department” Senator McCarthy said he had identified as of his Feb. 02, 1950 speech to the Republican Women’s Club of Wheeling, West Virginia.

P.S. ALSO SEE: “In Haaretz: Young Jews tell Bibi, ‘Israel is delegitimizing itself’, by Matthew Taylor, Mondoweiss, 11/12/10

(excerpt)…Netanyahu had sharp words for the protesters. “Attempts by our enemies and their misguided fellow travelers to delegitimize the Jewish state must be countered,” he said to thunderous applause…

      SOURCE –

P.S. Fellow travelers? Where, oh where, have I heard that “fellow travelers” used before? I just can’t seem to rememb…Oh, yeah! Back during the Commie scares of the 1940s and 50s in the U.S. What was his name? Oh yeah, Senator Joe McCarthy. Do you remember the famous, “Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last?” And then there was the House Un-American Activities Committee. And the Hollywood blacklist of “suspected Communists” and their “fellow travelers”.
Clearly, Netanyahu has NO sense of decency. Absolutely none! Nor does Likud MK Ofir Akunis!

…Does anyone in Israel have any sort of sense of irony? Stop me if I’m incorrect but wasn’t a significant amount of McCarthy’s anti-Communist hysteria… targeted at Jews?

“know Communists working for the State Deparment…”

Some claim that one of those Communists is Avigdor Lieberman himself. Perhaps he does not work for the State Department, but fairly close (Foregn Ministry).

In any case, traitors who engorged themselves on Norwegian kronor or pounds or Euros provided by such Radical Leftists like British Tories or German Christian Democrats are definitely part of world-wide Radical Left Democracy. As you see, without proper vigilance, Radical Left will take over Likud and Israel Beitenu and rule Israel to the diktat of Jihadist. Did you know the “turkey plot”? First, Radical Leftist Jihadists took over Butterball company (I think that Brosky family was involved, if they pose to be Orthodox Jews, it only show how invidious Leftist plots are) and then changed the rules of slaughtering turkeys to halal! And in secret, mind you.

There was something to McCarthy’s allegations, which came out after Soviet documents were released after 1989. But there are still people today who claim the Rosenbergs were victims of anti-semitism.

      • W.Jones on December 5, 2011, 4:40 pm

Couldn’t both be true? That is, they may have been treated worse because they did not present as positive a background image to their accusers as did, say, nonJewish accused? They were the only ones to get the death penalty, and it appears, to the contrary, that assuming Mr. Rosenberg was involved, Ms. Rosenberg wasn’t. There are several histrorical reviews discussing this.

But, perhaps also relevant, the time during which the Rosenbergs allegedly helped the USSR get the bomb was one when the USSR and the US were still allies, circa WWI. Some claim that their work was not essential.

And then, how did the Israeli State get the bomb? I doubt through espionage, but how official was the transfer of the information? And in any case, the transfer was at a time when the two sides were allies. So there are parallels.

So the government accused the Rosenbergs of doing something similar to what they themselves did in proliferating WMDs.

        W. Jones – you need to do some basic research – “the USSR and the US were still allies, circa WWI”. No, it was in the 1950’s, when the USSR and the USA were deadly enemies. And you mean World War 2, not 1. The executions of the Rosenbergs were terrible crimes, and in Ethel’s case, she may not have known what her husband Julius was doing. Besides, giving nuclear secrets to Russia, the weaker power, did not make the world a more dangerous place. Yes, no non-Jewish spy was executed. Equally, neither were many Jewish spies. There is no evidence of anti-semitism in the case, but this claim is still made by crypto-Zionists trying to wring every last drop of sympathy out of us.

What is the basis for thinking that A.L. is one of these kinds of people? Simply because he does not work well with western liberal countries and on a personal level is friendly with eastern europeans and maybe their governments?

Or that like Russia, he wasn’t big on attacking Iran, which would appear unusual for an extreme nationalist?

  6. pabelmont on December 5, 2011, 8:48 am

Can’t turkey slaughter be BOTH kosher and halal? (Point of immense importance to me, as you can well surmise, due to my own great concern with turkeys.)

    • Chaos4700 on December 5, 2011, 9:30 am

From what people have described when I raised a question, anything that’s butchered as halal is pretty much automatically kosher. I think. (Though the reverse doesn’t necessarily hold.)

      • gamal on December 5, 2011, 12:02 pm

perhaps as in ” This day are(all) good things made lawful for you. The food of those who have received the scripture is lawful for you, and your food is lawful for them.” Quran (5:5)

i am not qualified to determine kosher or trief(?). but then i eat anything gratefully, muslims were one of the bigger consumers of kosher meat in London, prior to the proliferation of halal suppliers, also if i pass my hand over wine it is still kosher, not so for Christians, lucky me.

      • W.Jones on December 5, 2011, 4:43 pm

“also if i pass my hand over wine it is still kosher, not so for Christians, lucky me.”
        Not so for Christians?

Akunis should be invited on the daily show; we should be making celebrities out of these guys

I would like to add to above: if I am correct over a million russian jews emigrated to Israel, many of them were members of the communist party guaranteeing them a better life than the orthodox russians had.
They should be careful yearning for McCarthy.
