Netanyahu arrives in NY with his public image in smithereens

The Prime Minister’s office tweeted that picture. Netanyahu speaks at the U.N. after noon and is going to meet with Secretary Clinton and Mayor Bloomberg.

But his press is disastrous. Laura Rozen retweeted this line from Ben Caspit at Al Monitor:

It seems to me that Netanyahu is beginning to understand the magnitude of the crisis of his future relationships with Washington.

While Barbara Slavin picked up this line from Patrick Tyler’s book, Fortress Israel: “Clinton said of Netanyahu years ago he ‘thinks he is the superpower and we are here to do whatever he requires.'”

And Roger Cohen is the latest to trash Netanyahu for injecting himself into our election:

Some adjectives that come to mind are: brazen, reckless and irrational. Another is disingenuous…

No Israeli prime minister should seek to circumvent the president, bet on his losing an election, and attack him publicly when the most strategically damaging course for a state as powerful as Israel is to alienate its unwavering ally, generous funder and military supplier — the United States.

His headstrong behavior has been ungrateful to Obama and undermining of Israel’s true strategic interests.

Should be fun! I still say: Six months, and the Israelis get rid of him.

“Six months, and the Israelis get rid of him”

It isn’t Bibi. It’s Zionism. Zionist logic has brought Israel to where it is.
Barak, Zippy or Mofaz would be just as bad. There is no alternative to the sociopaths. They sidelined them all.

“His headstrong behavior has been ungrateful to Obama and undermining of Israel’s true strategic interests”

Israel has been undermining its own true strategic interests since June 6 1967. Bibi is irrelevant in the bigger picture. It’s not like there was some fork in the road at which he swerved the car in the direction of the cliff. The degeneration required before Jews start spitting at Franciscan monks or firebomb the homes of immigrants or bomb Gaza with white phosphorous is the product of millions of individual conversations and millions of hours of teaching stretching over decades. The process started long before Bibi came on the scene.

Personalising the mess in the form of Bibi is like blaming the Mexican drug crisis on something that happened in 2005.

This is a systemic crisis. Nice that Bibi is the one to be there when TSHTF but it’s much bigger than him.

Netanyahu’s standing, of course, is far from free-falling at the pace that his friend Mitt Romney is plummeting in the polls, but his position is also far what it was only a few short months ago: Jewish leaders are bewildered, the media has grown harsh, Democratic congressmen are suddenly criticizing him in public and it’s clear to most observers that in his latest showdown with President Obama, it was Netanyahu who was forced to blink first.

People should look at the comments section of this Huffington Post article: near universal rejection of Nutter’s agenda and the few Ziobot slobs who dare to post nonsense get mobbed.

Phil,

As a betting man myself, especially in predicting major cultural and political turning points, I find that my crystal ball is cloudy on this issue. For instance, the Netanyahu camp may succeed in cooking up another Monicagate or 9/11 to turn the political tide in their favor. Just recently we have heard WINEP nonchalantly mention false flag ops as a useful tool for getting an American/Israeli war against Iran underway. These people are reckless and crazy and sometimes get away with committing outrageous criminal acts to achieve their objectives.

No matter how many warning signs Netanyahu receives regarding his crossing of red lines in his brazen and crude attacks on a sitting American president, he keeps pressing ahead like an apoplectic maniac.

Are Israel and the neocons on the verge of using a false flag op to trigger an American/Israeli war against Iran?

“Lobbyist Says Israel Should Create A ‘False Flag’ To Start A War With Iran”

Now is the time that a small provocation could lead to a full-blown war.

And Patrick Clawson, Director of Research at Washington Institute Of Near East Policy (WINEP), has suggested that someone should fabricate that small provocation.

Speaking at the WINEP policy forum luncheon on “How to Build US-Israeli Coordination on Preventing an Iranian Nuclear Breakout,” Clawson (ironically) said that “if, in fact, the Iranians aren’t going to compromise, it would be best if someone else started the war.”

Before that Clawson listed all the conflicts in which the U.S. didn’t become involved until they were attacked, emphasizing that a false flag was needed each time for conflict to be initiated.

Here’s more from Clawson:

“One can combine other means of pressure with sanctions. I mentioned that explosion on August 17th. We could step up the pressure. I mean look people, Iranian submarines periodically go down, some day one of them might not come up, who would know why? We can do a variety of things if we wish to increase the pressure… We are in the game of using covert means against the Iranians. We could get nastier.”

WINEP is a “key organization in the Israel lobby” that was founded in 1985 by leading members of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) to “provide a seemingly ‘objective’ research organization to provide consistently ‘pro-Israel’ analysis and commentary,” according to Harvard professor of International Affairs Steven M. Walt (h/t Firedoglake).

Former AIPAC staffer MJ Rosenberg was reportedly in the room when WINEP was founded and described the organization as “an AIPAC controlled think-tank that would disseminate the AIPAC line but in a way that would disguise its connections.”

Watch out.

Clawson’s remarks remind one of the fact that the neocons imagined a “New Pearl Harbor” *before* 9/11 to get their Global War on Terror and Clash of Civilizations underway — including the Iraq War, the Afghanistan War, the Afpak War, attempted Libya and Syria Wars, and now a possible (probable?) Iran War. The neocons and Likud Zionists are an open book — what they are up to is all right out there in plain view. But they continue to be protected by the mainstream media and both the Republican and Democratic Parties.

Astonishing. They don’t even try to hide it anymore. The pro-Israel faction in DC is so well-entrenched that Bibi can fly over here and essentially tell the POTUS off, and Mr. Clawson can get teasingly playful with what any previous generation of Americans would have vicerally recognized as treason. How low our political culture has sunk.

@Skull & Bones:
First, we need to distance ourselves from Israel since its quite clear (though I had my suspicions prior to this) they want to drag us into their conflict so we’ll do the heavy lifting.
Second, whatever politicians are associated with this guy need to be investigated and most likely thrown in prison (most likely Lieberman & McCain).

These criminals need to be prosecuted. And if not, they will be hanging from lynch posts one day when the people say enough.
The WINEP was founded as research arm of AIPAC by Martin Indyk — an Australian who was overnight given the US citizenship and made an expert in the Israel-Palestine talks. And you wonder why the talks never succeed. I once saw Dennis Ross walk by and I wanted to kick him in the balls.

The neocons have really stirred the pot.
